997 Gear Lubricant Data
I noticed that 996 forum uses this table and decided to update it with Millers CRX data and correct some cosmetic mistakes.
For whatever it's worth, here is revised info.
Update:
One important note: Motul does NOT recommend Gear 300 for 997 Aisin gear boxes in their application guide.
Attached screen shot from the guide:

Aral BS 75W-90
During my search I came across Aral Getriebeoel BS 75W-90 that Aral recommends for 996 & 997. See capture below.
Does anybody have any technical info on this specific lubricant at all?
I would like to add it to the list.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the information Luke
have been putting this off, but it's time to DIY this service. Anyone have a local source in Houston, Texas where #2 or #3 can be purchased or an online source for a "reasonable" rate?(don't say the dealer)
If not, has anyone bought from suncoast or sunset recently? Help me out fellas.

Welcome everybody!
I will be updating this thread as often as new info or lube suggestions are available.
Try to contact your local Shell distributor. The Spirax S5 ATE (item #3 from my list) is sold in 20L pails across this continent. I know that for sure, bought one about 1 year ago.
Its product code is: 550027608. It is substantially less expensive than any other P approved gear lube.
Rich,
The same experience here. Had Delvac 75W-90 in my G-box too, cold shifting and getting into 1-st was very difficult. It is probably great for track use, but not for DD in moderate climates.

Thanks Gentleman,
I considered the 20L, but ultimately I don't want 6 services worth of fluid. I ended up checking the two establishments above and ended up ordering from sunset. I have been a satisfied customer of Suncoast in the past, but the price difference allowed for some extra goodies.
I ended up paying $26.47 per liter for the Shell product. I used the extra to buy a wheel guide, some washer fluid and a handful of crush washers. Hope to have it in time for July 4th.

The stock one from the dealer. I've driven a car with Delvac and even had the Liquimoly in my gear box for a couple of weeks. Very difficult engagement in first with both of those, especially when cold. So I went back to whatever Porsche sells in their service department. For street-driven cars stick with the OEM fluid.

Agreed- motilube ptx 75w90 (one of the two porsche approved) is the best for 1st gear engagement when cold in my experience.
I've never tried motilgear 300 though. I may try it next time based on the chart above. Higher visc at higher temp is interesting, but still low visc at low temp so the countershaft can spin up easily. could be really good.

Fully agree with the comments from Rich & Ilko.
In addition to the above:
1. Your clutch condition (glazed, worn flywheel & disc, clutch dust + oil mix buildup (from leaking RMS or IMS seals) on clutch guide sleeve, etc.) may contribute to poor 1-st gear engagement.
2. Shifter cable inspection and/or adjustment (if required). Cables are subject to wear and tear.
3. Clutch bleed / flush often helps as well according to a number of reports.
4. Shifting technique, both up- and downshifting - there are many posts on this subject, please search.

Sunset Porsche is the best bet/price for Genuine Porsche products. Don't bother with anything other than the Porsche transaxle fluid for the Aisin transmission according to GBox transmissions. It is specially formulated for the Aisin transmission. I had my transaxle fluid changed by the dealer in San Diego when I bought the car. They obviously didn't use the Porsche stuff. 1st to 2nd when cold was difficult. Sunset sold me the genuine Porsche stuff for $26/ liter plus shipping. Easy install. It made a world of difference in the shifting.

I was experiencing the famous intermittent 1st gear engagement issue, so I took my car to the dealer for the following services:
1) Change gear lube (they used Mobilube according to the receipt)
2) Bleed the clutch hydraulic fluid
3) Adjust clutch cable
I would say that I don't feel any improvement, and unfortunately the intermittent 1st gear engagement issue persists. I guess at this point I have to live with it....
