Default Tire Decision

So I picked up nail in my front Bridgestone RE11 this morning. The fronts have about 21,000 miles on them, they probably have another 5k left on them. My rears are cooked, i'm past the wear bars but nowhere near going to the cord, I could probably stretch it another 1-2k miles. My dilemma is do i patch the front and hope it lasts 1-2k miles or do i just bite the bullet and buy all 4 now? I don't drive this in the rain so i'm not worried hydroplaning. Thoughts?

Your tires are probably old anyways, so I'd just go for the new rubber now.

I don't believe a reputable tire shop will repair a performance tire for understandable reasons.

Just bought a new set of Pilot SuperSports, and a set of RE11's for my BMW. Very happy with both tires. Damon was very helpful.

Sounds like it is time for a new set. Firestone might fix the front for you, but it is peak season for new summer tires. Why wait when Tire Rack can hook you up this week!

Just bite the bullet.
Best case scenario: you get a few thousand miles.

Worst case: you get a blow out or flat and get stranded somewhere.

Or worse, you actually need to dodge something and when you turn your precision engineered 911, the car realizes it's got dog turds on the rims and decides to turn like a dump truck.

The 997 really doesn't like to turn without a good set of tires. Just take your car out to a local autocross and take a run on the old tires. Replace them with something new and go do another. I did that and shaved about 3 seconds off my time. Why? Because the car would actually turn around a corner with a decent set of tires. With the worn out set, I might as well have been driving a Ford cargo van with a lovely sounding motor.

I got a set of Michellin Pilot Super sport 3 months a go, best tires around. Great handling, much less road noise, overall they are excellent.

Get a new set and keep the old front undamaged tire for emergency spare. Definitely get a new set if you are thinking about a change in tire.
