Default oil level check question

While I was driving I looked down and saw this. Does this mean I have plenty of oil or no oil? I did a check with the engine off as well, and it was the same. I have a 2007 carrera coupe.

I may have inadvertently done an oil check before starting the engine and then driving off. It would seem though that the indicator would go off when starting the engine. I just happened to look. I did oil test a couple of weeks ago and it was the same. I bought the car used, have put some miles but not a ton since December and it hasn't changed.

It appears to show full. I will keep an eye on it incase the oil level sensor is faulty.

In this case, I believe the display actually indicates that the engine is overfilled with oil. The very top notch above the arrow should be empty (with a black center). Did you add oil recently?

Did your car come with an owner's manual - you can find your answer there plus lots of other good info.

What he said, this usually does not just show up, are you checking it after being fully warmed up and on level ground???

I havent added oil at all. I got the car in december and have put about two thousand miles on it. I have checked the oil after a few good miles driving and on level ground.

Should I drain some oil out and recheck?

I believe the manual says to keep the oil level between the arrows/bars. Since your's is a bar high, I suspect that's prompting the warning.

my new to me 997.2 keeps indicating that I need to add oil, but the gauge looks exactly like yours. I'm confused! I put in a quart.

How does it indicate that you need to add oil? If you are getting an alarm to check oil level that alarm is also set for too much oil and you need to drain some out.

Your oil level is at the max. I have a 2008S and the oil is checked when cold before starting. The reading can vary from time to time between a couple of bars assuming you are not consuming a lot of oil. You should refer to the manual for clarification.

I was unaware that any of our cars could be checked cold and before starting. I have always checked it hot and running..... in all of my 911's.
