Default Unusual battery charging incident

I recently asked if there was another way to open the front lid because I got myself into an unusual situation. Porsche hotline was unable to help over the weekend and the OPC was unable to help over the phone on Monday. They told me to have the car towed to the centre but even the smallest tow truck couldn't get into my basement car park. I got a professional keysmith in and he, and some of the people he called, couldn't do anything either.
Well, it started when I got myself a lighter battery because I felt that my 80AmpH weighed too much. The 55AmpH I found was significantly lighter. (Sorry I forgot to weigh them.) After installation, I put my battery charger on thinking that I just top up the charge. Lowered the lid without closing it, I pressed my remote key to lock the doors. Heard the one beep horn to indicate that my lid was not shut but I checked that the doors were locked. Noticed that the storage compartment light was still on.

3 hours later, came back to disconnect the charger. All appeared normal but noticed that the storage compartment light had gone off. (Later found out that they go off after 2 hours to avoid battery drain.) Here comes the problem, I pressed the remote and the car did not respond. I thought maybe shutting the lid might take care of that. Wrong. The locks still did not respond. I went to get my other key and same thing. The usual procedure then is to unlock the car thru the key hole. Found out rather quickly that there was a problem with my key barrel and the keysmith thinks that the link between the key mechanism and lock has somehow popped off.

Went thru the owners manual, service manual and even the parts catalog and couldn't find help. I felt that if I could disconnect the battery and reconnect it, I would somehow 'wake' the car's alarm system to open the doors. But I needed to get to the battery first.

Remembering that I saw an exposed cable close to the lock for the lid, I thought it might be a manual front lid opener. But you can't see this cable without removing the bumper covers and you couldn't remove the covers without opening the lid!

Thanks to R-listers, I found out that this cable actually comes out in the driver side (left side for me) wheel well. I don't use the security wheel bolt so I could remove my wheel, remove the wheel well covers and find that cable end. My cable had actually fallen back into the hole which really got me panicking. With lots of efforts and yoga and luck, I was able to get the cable out. Someone said I needed to yank it hard and I did. Pop came the lid and the car alarm went crazy. It was the first time I ever loved hearing a car alarm go off!

Anyway, true enough, I was able to unlock my doors with my remote controller after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. This didn't happen to the the first time I replaced that battery.
