Uh ok-please don't say 991. I am looking to replace a daily driver with one of the above. I know many others have experience with AMG and 'M'. Which is better if your fav is a Porsche- quality reliability and most important fun to drive!

I would say 'fun to drive' factor goes to the bimmer, especially with a manual tranny. the C63 is a beast, but the M3 is still the better driver's car. personally, i'm also not a huge fan of the C's interior - feels cheap and low-end in places. M for interior and ergonomics.

Well other than Mercedes, BMW & Porsche that really only leaves Audi, VW & Opel.

Out of the remaining -- Audi S4?

My choice other than a 911 variant would be a C63 or a M3.

Sam Smith from R&T had a nice article in Esquire about the Audi RS5. I traded a tweet with him about it. Apparently a very nice car but no substitute for a 997

@ThatSamSmith good S5 article in ESQ, should i sell my 997 for one?

@Wiesnoski Thanks! And hell to the no.[/B]

The two are quite different.

- The M3 is focused but the sweet V8 lacks low-end torque and really needs to be wound up to be fun. For my money, I think that low-end torque makes for a better DD. If only it had more low-down torque...
- The Merc has gobs of torque but... it's almost too much and if you're anything other than tentative with the gas pedal you will look like a hooligan. If only it was more focused...

The E90 or E92 M3 would be my choice, but it's near the end of it's production so if you may want to wait if you are buying new. Alternatively, a bog-standard current-gen F30 335i would be cheaper and with a 5.1s 0-60mph is plenty for commuting.

Tough choice out of those 2, I would probably go with the M3. That said, I would add the RS5/S5 to the Mix and to me that beats both of them.

I've had both AMG and M cars. They're really apples and oranges to me. Pick the AMG if you want a German muscle car in a tuxedo. Pick the M car if handling and overall performance balance is what you care about more.

Actually, the car I'm eyeing to be my next DD to sit along side my 997 is an Audi S7.

My DD is a '12 CLS 550 4matic. It's an absolute beast and a phenominal well rounded car for a DD.

I'd take a look at the A7 and S7.
For a DD, I'd be happy with the A7.

2008-present M3. Its my daily driver, rear drive, 6 spd manual, 414 hp V8 that revs to 8250 rpm. Get a sedan if you can find one, it makes a great family car.

I looked around on C63 AMG forums when interested in one a while back and quite a lot of people complained of rattling interiors. If you were comparing an M5 to an E55 i'd tell you E55, but I think the M3 is better than the C class.

My son drives a 2011 M3 sedan and my daughter drives a 2011 Audi S4 with the sports differential option. The S4 makes for a great daily driver, IMO.

My DD is a Porsche Panamera S. Best car out there, and it's a Porsche!

If that's too rich for your blood, or you don't want to hear all the grief from your coworkers about having two Porsches (I get it all the time) then I'd suggest the M3 but not without checking out the S5 first.

M3, RS4 (I actually like the older one better), AMG... or, take a totally different route and get a Maserati, absolutely the BEST V8 and exhaust amongst all, basically a Ferrari on discount!

Bugatti Veyron is a German car as well, I hear it's pretty good ;-)
