Default 997 As a MN daily driver?

So, I'm looking at getting back into the P-car thing after a few years. had 78 SC, 82 SC, 01 986, and 99 996.

What are your opinions on an 08 997 Carrera 2 as a daily driver in MN?
We have an X5 for the family long hauls and snow storms, only one 9 year old boy who fits in the back of the 997 but only when there are 3 of us going anywhere. I work out of my home, so most of my driving is for fun or to the airport.

I've driven Miatas, M3s, M5s, RS4's, etc... in the winter with proper tires with no issues.
Currently driving a 2010 Audi S4 Prestige which is nice, and great in the snow, but to be honest pretty boring and I've been looking at M3s and 997s.
What do you think, would you give up the S4 for a 997?

thanks

I went from a 2012 S4 Prestige to an 09 C2S and have no regrets. My 911 is my daily driver and every time I get into the car is a special experience. The S4 is a fabulously well-rounded ride but is a bit numb in personality compared to the 911.

I live in the Chicago area and have a set of winters for it. The car will not perform as well as the S4 in inclement weather but the winter tires make it capable for most situations barring extremely deep snow.

I have two young ones and my family does not hesitate to take the 911 on errands or for a day trip. The road noise is elevated as compared to the S4 and the ride is a bit more harsh but still compliant enough.

The exterior look, the interior craftsmanship, the connection to the road, the sounds and smells, the superior visibility, the solid gas mileage, the versatility, and the pedigree make these cars a very desirable choice. I gave up a wonderful S4 and wouldn't change that decision.

I live in MN I drive my 997 S Cab as daily driver, well not everyday I also have a 4 Runner. I drove it all winter 2012 and some last winter. I plan to get winter tires for next winter. I won't drive it if sloppy or icy why makes no sense. I work downtown and park in the city ramps. I had a 996 for 13 years and did the same. Get a beater or truck for really bad days otherwise I have had no issues. I'm thinking of getting my wife an Audi she has a 2000 Mercedes CLK Cab with only 29000 miles so hardly broken in.
I put Blizacks on it in the winter.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio, we get a lot of lake effect snow. I have dedicated snow tires and wheels for the winter months. I work from home and either drive my 997.2 to the airport or take a car service. We do have an extra car if I need it, but the 997.2 is a blast as a daily driver. Have fun!

My 997.1 C2 is my daily driver up here in Canada. Snows are a must in winter, as are heated seats but otherwise you can probably drive it 360 or so days a year. Ground clearance is an issue on the 5 or so other days of huge snowfall. No real need for a C4 unless you are a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

C4S for sure and don't look back.
I've had a 911 since 1999 as an all year driver with no issues....none. Wonderful in the snow with the right tires.
Jersey isn't MN but snow is snow and we get a sh*tload of it sometimes like this winter.

I don't have to tell you they're magical cars:

Best of Luck to you!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm still considering. The one I"m looking at is an 08 black, black, C2 37k for around $45k. It's a base model, no frills but 19 inch wheels and Bose. I've always liked to drive a slower car fast vs a fast car slow, and thats my justification for not going with a C4s and I'm sticking to it

I've had and raced Miatas since 91, and still have a very low milage original 97 that I'll always have as a summer car. So the C2 would be my daily / winter beater I just need to really think about how many times I use the back seats / trunk of my S4 and how much I'd miss that, I've already got the go ahead from the boy and the wife.......

Also, anyone from the MPLS area recommend a good indy shop that works on water pumpers? I usually do my own work, but should something of the electrical / computer variety go wrong I don't want to go to the dealer.

looks good in the driveway though....
