Default Getting (my body) in shape for DE events?

I have the standard leather seats and belts in my C2S. towards the end of the second day the muscles in my back and stomach were soar from the strain of trying to hold myself in the seat around the corners. Besides the obvious seat and belt upgrade, are there any specific exercises that I can do?

I'm not to the point where I can drop $7k on some GT2 seats and a harness system as I often throw my wife and kids in the car for road trips.

Have you tried sliding your seat back and reclining it, then pulling the seat belt tight, then putting it back in driving position? That helps a lot.

CG lock works fairly well as does the technique above.

Try www.cg-lock.com/autocross.html

It really works. No affiliation.

Mark,

Very nice meeting you this weekend. Instead of CG lock (which I don't like very much) you could install an additional lap belt (similar to what you have in airplane passenger seats). That at least would hold your butt in place. You would then put the normal 3 point belt over it.

Cheers
Chris

During high speed cornering, I occasionally push on the dead pedal to keep my a$$ fully planted in the seat.

Google images of 'plank exercise'.

Take a look at the G-FORCE Torso Harness. I use it for autocross and it works well.

Also look her, page 34 and beyond. I don't have them but I know others who do, but they drive BMW. Porsche seats are trickier but there are options.

That would be perfect but it looks like there's no Porsche option. I'm guessing because of the integrated headrest. I emailed them to see if they have any ideas.

In the event of a rollover in a car without a cage, would you be able to get out of them so you wouldn't be crushed? I'm thinking along the lines of conventional wisdom that one should not use 6 pts in cars without cages. Obviously these aren't 6 pts so just asking...

Consider modifying the driver as well. Find a good trainer and do some core strengthening work. I started doing this about 2 years ago and it made a huge difference. No sore back or abs anymore. Also much easier getting down on the garage floor to work under the car.

I'm 53 years old and didn't realize how weak and out of shape my core muscles had become. I run and lift weights, but was neglecting the core.

That's not conventional wisdom, that's just forum lore. You don't have the time nor strength to put your body where you think you want it to be while the car is violently flipping. Odds are you're better off properly restrained in a typical crash than that 1 in a million chance of the car flying off of a cliff and landing on the roof, crushing your little noggin.
