I have PCM 3.0 with the infotainment package in my 2011 4S. My iPod drains when the car is parked. Is this normal? I have not tested the iPod elsewhere after this has now occurred three times - could be a problem with it as well.

Any ideas?
HA! I JUST dealt with this and this is what I found out. The Y cable in space beneath the arm rest where most of us can find the ipod/aux/usb outlet - requires both the ipod and the usb cable to be plugged in, in order to play and charge the ipod. I found this out after not understanding why it would play but not charge.
However, if you do not unplug the USB portion of the y cable once you turn off the car, it drains the battery as the ipod continues to play, even if you paused/turned off the ipod. This is what I've been told by the dealer and another friend with a gen 2 car.
So, to charge (assuming you have the y cable, if not get one from the dealer $38) plug in the ipod and usb connectors and the other end to your ipod (play and charges), when parked and turning off car, unplug the usb.

Hope this helps.

What a PAIN!!! I did not have the USB side plugged in before I read your post, the iPod still died while being left in the car. It seems the only answer is to unplug the iPod and turn it off. Call me lazy, but that sucks. I have in the Boxster a Pioneer headunit with Ipod (short cable pluging it in in the front of the head unit) connection and in the Z8 a very old Dice connection that replaces the CD changer with the iPod and both systems automatically turn off the iPod when the ignition is turned off.
Same thing happened to me constantly with a BMW. Just got into the habit of 1. always unplugging the iPod when parking overnight and 2. always attaching a charger when not driving every day...
Related question. I just got the y cable from sun coast and connected both ends to the car and the other to my iPhone (4)....no joy. Its charging...but no music. Bluetooth is working - but that doesnt play music either. So, am I stuck with the crappy stereo in my 11 .2. Boo hoo :-(
