Want to do the occasional trackday - aware of anything?
Hi All
I'm planning to do the occasional track day, maybe 1-2 a year in Taupo, NZ. Ambient temps anything from 5-25 degC. Is there anything I need to be aware of before I do? i.e anything apart from having reasonably new oil, brake fluid etc. Do I need to be aware of any oil starvation issues, is there anything I really " should be doing" before tracking the car? tyres will be standard ones. I'm not a really good driver by any stretch....
Cheers
Matt

Take all the junk out of your car. You don't want stuff flying around while you're on the track. That includes stuff in your glove box and arm rests, etc.
Buy your own helmet.
Bring with you to the track:
Painters tape
Tire pressure monitor
a small cooler with cold drinks
pair of driving gloves can be useful
Hat/Sunglasses
Don't tell your instructor you're a good driver. You're not... Yet...
If you can learn to heel/toe downshift before your track day, I highly recommend you do so.

Here's a list of things I was told to bring and things I wish I'd been told to bring:
Lot's of drinking water, sunscreen, sun hat, fruit to snack on, a chair to sit on, long sleeve cotton shirt, painter's tape, driving gloves, spare clothes for the drive home, tire pressure gauge (pump if you've got one). I have a list at home but I think this is the basics.
Don't worry too much and just be safe and have fun. Listen to your instructor and a week later start looking at GT3 Ads :-)
