Saw a black 991 at the Palm Springs Airport Hertz location on Tuesday. We were there on business and didn't get upgraded so it was a Chevy Cruze for us.
On my last trip the rental car guy told me I could get the red Itailan sports car, maker started with the letter F
Did you happen to pack light? They told me that since I only had one small bag that the vette would be a perfect fit. Made perfect sense at the time. But this week I used the same luggage and got a Maxima instead... I never know what they'll offer me. But it's kinda nice how they text to my phone which stall and what type of car I'm getting when I land.
Saw a silver one in Jacksonvile yesterday. Boxster as well. I did inquire about an "upgrade". $400 a day.
$400/day for the upgrade? They must be pricing in the expectation that people are going to destroy it. I rented a Corvette convertible, which is probably 60% of the price for only ~$100/day total. Why is a base 991 4-5x as much?

Rental 911? Hell yeah I'd destroy it! I'd go through $400 of tires alone in a day, I think

I was stuck with a rental Fiat500 in Italy for a week; it was horrible. It's literally impossible to fit two carry-on size bags in the "trunk" without folding down one of the back seats. After playing tetris for a while, we somehow managed to get 3 adults and all our luggage in it, but it was a real challenge. What was worse was that it wasn't the nice US-spec fiat500 with a reasonable engine, but a euro version with a 68 hp 1.2L I4 engine. Damned thing couldn't even get out of it's own way. I was rolling through the gears at full throttle in parking lots, just trying to get up to jogging speed. Was horribly uncomfortable to drive; I fit OK (I'm 6'1), but I just could not find a comfortable seat position where both my arms and legs were comfortable, which was awful if I had to drive more than a mile or two.
Really easy to park, though.
I'm a gov traveller, so I'm limited to economy, subcompact, or whatever else happens to be on the lot if they're out of those. My best rental car so far has been a convertible V6 mustang in hawaii, which I paid out of pocket to upgrade too (well worth an extra $10/day!). Most of the time, I'm thrilled to just get something as nice as a loaded kia soul. I'd kill to get a 991 or R8 somewhere where it would be fun to drive, goddamn. Saw some rental lamborghinis once; never did find out the cost to rent, but I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to afford them.
I got an email notice that they're doing the whole Porsche line - Cayennes, Panameras, etc. I was in AZ visiting my dad before Christmas and they had a white Panamera. I was VERY tempted (esp. with no mileage limit), but as my ever-brilliant wife pointed out, it'd only be used for a 15-minute trip to my dad's house daily. Not worth the upgrade. When we go out to CA to visit, then I'll certainly do it...
