Default Anyone installed or tested a radar reciever behind the bumper cover?

In looking for places to mount a 9500ci front radar receiver/control brain, the options appear to be either below the license in the intake space, or under the bumper cover to the side of the license plate (plate is mounted in factory location).

I'm wondering how much the plastic bumper cover attenuates the radar signal.

Anyone tested this out to see?

I have one sitting in my garage since I don't know how to mount the thing. It would stick out if I put it in the intake space. Does the front bumper have to come off for install?

My 9500ci has all that radar bits hidden behind the bumper and I have no complaints about its sensitivity. And yes, LG, the bumper has to come off. The only exposed pieces are the laser sensors; everything else his hidden behind the bumper covers and cowlings. My two fronts are in the opening where the 3rd radiator would go up front, and above the license place in the back. I'm not sure where the GPS antenna and radar horn is as I had the unit professionally installed.

My 9500ci has its receiver behind the front bumper. Its radar detection range equals or exceeds my V1, so I guess you can say the bumper doesn't hurt things much at all.

I just had mine installed and the radar detector is now behind the front bumper, with the laser deflectors as indicated by others.

The GPS unit is somewhere below the windshield wipers and the speaker below the main dash on the passenger's seat, same as the USB port to update the software.

No issue whatsoever with sensitivity. This thing's a beauty. Already saved my butt a couple of times.

Good to hear, so I'll mount my front radar receiver (well the only radar receiver on a 9500ci) behind the bumper cover. I'll just have to make sure its far enough beside the license plate to not be obstructed but since radar isn't directional like laser, I can mount that sensor anywhere on the front bumper structure under the bumper cover.

Any need for or use for a rear facing radar receiver? I'm assuming since the 9500ci doesn't (yet) have a rear facing radar receiver tied into the system its not a likely source of getting hit.. though I'd like to know when a police car is coming up behind me shooting me.

My understanding is you want the laser front sensors somewhere between the license plate and the headlight on each side, as those are the targets for LIDAR. ON the back end the rear plate makes sense as its the most reflective surface, thought the rear tail lights to have reflectors in them that may be great targets as well ... but there's limited mounting options out back.

My biggest problem now is figuring how to get the rear plate LIDAR sensor/emitter integrated into the license plate frame so it doesn't look like the add-on it would be on my pewter silver plate frame. I see a black plate frame in my future.

If Escort sold a custom plate frame with integrated LIDAR circuitry in it, where we could get custom messages put on them so they look like the typical vanity plate frames, I'd be all over that. There's a business opportunity here -- integrating that LIDAR sensor/emitter into a black plate frame to make it more stealth. I'll see what I can make up. Now where is my makerbot 3d printer and black plastic wire....

Perhaps this will help. I had to use some aluminum tube I bought from Lowes to raise the module up 1/2". See photo below:
