I took my car to the dealership today for them to give cylinder number 6 the once over. I had to pay for it but I wanted to get it checked before the warranty expires 3 weeks.
Good news, it's in tip top condition. I asked them to check inside using a borescope and to perform a leak down test. There were no signs of scoring and the leak down test showed between 2 and 3 percent pressure loss.

This is great news!
I apologize if I sent you down a wild goose chase, but given it was the #6 cylinder it made me worried. For what it's worth if it were my car I would have done the exact same thing. It's very good to have the piece of mind.
I'm curious, did the dealer have any ideas as to the root cause of this?
