Default Anyone with roofrack experience?

I just recieved a set of Porsche brand 'roof transport system' roofracks.

Only problem is, I dont have the whole system!

I have the two bars but no keys or bushings.

Anyone have any experience re'keying a set of roof racks?

Theres no number on the lock tumbler if that was what you were going to ask for.

I think I may have found a set of bushings for 34 dollars online.

Any help is appreciated.

I lost the key for my BMWs roof rack and got a replacement from the dealership, have you called a dealer yet?

And what is that on your car in the avatar? Is that a full tent set up on top on your P-car. Factory Item?

They are made by Thule. Thule has a key that allows you to remove tumblers in seconds. The problem might be that Porsche had them "redesigned" for their private labeled rack so you can't swap tumblers.

I will try the tumbler removal key on mine and let you know.

Good news is the Porsche locks/tumblers are Thule and unchanged. The bad news is the Thule universal change key will only remove the tumbles if they are unlocked. Your next option will probably be a locksmith. Worst case senerio you just drill them out. Thule sells replacements.

thanks for the ideas guys.

getting a locksmith to take a look into it this week...

---

also I'm starting to think that these are off of a 996...

will they still fit onto a 997.1?

...fingers crossed.

still have to look into the bushings, but I'll sort out the locks first.

No change from 996 to 997. I think the Porsche part number is a 996. What are these bushings you are referring to? The foam pads that go under the feet?

Heres a picture of what I've got.

I need the foam and I figured I needed something for this bolt to attach to since it doesn't protrude past the post of the roof rack.

Maybe once I get the keys I can adjust the bolts.

Does this bolt screw into the car itself?

Can the tumblers be unlocked but still hold the rack to the post?

Maybe my racks are unlocked but attached?

The feet or uprights are what you have pictured. The top of those feet are attached to the cross members or aero bars. Ultimately you will need to unlock the tumbler and pull out the entire black end piece to secure the rack to the feet bottoms.

The feet bottoms are a key piece and it appears you are missing them. I will take a picture of them tomorrow and post. They are a solid aluminum piece that you secure onto the roof of the car where the anchor points are on your roof. Once the feet bottoms are fastened to the roof of your car via the cars (4) anchor points you set what you have pictured onto the feet bottoms.

There are (4) die cut foam pieces that fit around the feet bottoms. They are there simply as a precaution as the rack is German over engineered and the rack never actually touches the roof of the car.

May sound complicated but with all the pieces I can have mine off and on in 10 minutes. When I post the pics it will help you. The rack is worth nothing without the feet bottoms. You are going to have to try and source those somehow.

If anyone knows where to source parts for the feet and foam, please let me know.

Thanks Mark for the info.

Here are the pictures. This aluminum feet bottoms and foam are part of the Porsche design of the rack manufactured by Thule. They come as parts with the Porsche rack. My best guess is that you will have to find a very cooperative Porsche parts person that is willing to contact Porsche to see if they will sell these separately from the entire rack system.
