2006 Carrera S. Drove to work, parking garage. Came out at 6:30pm. Remote does not work and key will not mechanically unlock driver or passenger door. I happened to have both keys with me.Neither key works manually or remotely.seems to free spin 180 degrees both directions so locked out. 72k miles on original battery but no difficulty starting this morning. I can see red security light blinking in car. It's like the electronic door opening mechanism ( remote and manual) failed simultaneously. If I get a new battery to put in, I don't know how to open hood to access battery. I have no reason to believe battery died but willing to try. What should I do?

Doesn't sound like a battery issue to me. That being said, on another thread there's a post saying "there is a little cable inside the front right wheel well. If your battery goes dead or your electronic release fails, you can pull the cable to manually release the frunk lid"
I think others mentioned having to remove some of the wheelwell to access it...

I have never seen a car that won't open manually by using the key. I don't know how the 997 locking mechanism works but I would assume you should be able to open independent of battery condition. Sounds like something messed up in the locking mechanism. That would explain why the keyfob also doesn't work. Assuming you tried to unlock the passenger door (2x unlock button on keyfob)?

My 2007 Carrera S wouldn't open manually but still opened with the fob, which would have been fine except for when I was going on a trip- the fob stops working after a week and you have to open in manually. The dealership had to change out the tumbler.

Are you sure your opening the right car? The key should open the door manually. Ypur saying both doors cannot be opened!. Now that is a mystery. No porsche engineer would do that on purpose.

I bought my car used with only one key. I had local dealer order another key by VIN and while the new key worked the ignition, it would not work the door lock or glove box lock. Somehwhere along the line the previous owner must have changed the locks.
