Default Completed Gundo Hack - NJ

I know that it can be a challenge to find a shop to do the famous Gundo Hack.
I ended up searching out a small custom welding shop and showed the owner some pics. While he had never done a gundo hack, he saw no problem in fabricating the modification in 2" 304L stainless steel. Here's the finished product. He did a very nice job:

So if you're looking to do this mod, don't discount a good custom welding shop. It took some searching to find the right shop, but I'm very satisfied with the results.

Thanks...
He was happy to work with whatever size I spec'd, but since I've got a 997.2 with the center muffler, I thought I'd be better off with 2" rather than 1.75".

Can't wait to fit them and see what they sound like.

Sweet. I can understand your search efforts, I've been trying to zero-in on a similarly qualified person to do the Gundo in the Dayton area. What about the guy you found made you decide to use him? Did you request some work samples?

I did get to see samples of his welding. He does a lot of Toyota off road stuff in addition to his regular commercial work ( fabricating roll bars, nerf bars, brush bars and the like) I started by e-mailing him and attaching a pic of a completed Gundo. I then brought my spare set of cans out to him. After speaking with him and seeing him size up the job and explain how could would go about it, I was comfortable that he would do a quality job.

Will this mod invalidate the manufacturers warranty on a 997.2?

I don't think so. The Gundo is really the Porsche Sport Exhaust without the button.

2" is going to be pretty loud. The Fister Hack is 1.75".

If you have an "in warranty car" worth 100k would you do it....I certainly wouldn't.

2" is not loud enough for me, I should've gone with 4"

I'm figuring if 2" is too tame, I'll do the sharkwerks center muffler bypass.

Just finished half the job tonight. Turned out removing the rear bumper simplified things significantly.

It will only invalidate the warranty on the mufflers...

Never say never, but the chances of an exhaust modifcation downstream of the cats and O2 sensors causing a warranty issue should be slim to none.

Also, if you were to encounter a problem, the dealer would have to demonstrate that the modification was the source of the issue.

If you have doubts, look as how the PSE works.

Bill,

I will be very curious to hear if you are satisfied with the Gundo Hack or if the additional crossover pipes will be necessary to achieve the sound you want. I would appreciate it if you would pm me with the result just in case this thread gets moved down the page and out of sight out of mind.

Thanks,
Warren
