Newbie: Winter 18" tires on '09 S
I am getting close to purchasing an '09 S and would like to put 18" winter wheel/tires on it but am afraid of making a dumb mistake so my question here. (I did spend time searching the archives but to no avail.)
The manual states that I can run 18" wheels/tires for winter but not summer.
1 - Am I reading the manual correctly? Why no 18s for summer?
2 - What do I look for when I purchase 18" wheels... said another way, are all Carrera "18" wheels" the same and for what years? I noticed the manual states the same size of 18"s for winter and summer.
The reason I am asking this: what if an ad denotes "2001 Carrera 18" wheels", could I be certain they would be the required size?
I wanted 18" winter wheels because the tires are aroud $200 cheaper and winter tires are bit squishy anyway.
Thanx so much,

I'm running 18" CarreraIIIs on my '10 C2S right now. They're a bit lighter, super easy to clean, and ride a bit better.
I really enjoy the way the car drives with these wheels. I may end up using them year round, transitioning from winters to some (gasp) all seasons.
wheelenhancement dot com is a great resource for wheels, and occasionally have great deals on 18s. I've bought a couple sets thus far.

you can run 18 w/ summer tires on your S.
the BASE 997 wheels are 18s. the 18s are 10.5 wide vs 11 for the S.
the 2001 Carrera 18 wheels are 996 wheels w/ slightly different offsets. You need to verify fitment.

Thanx all so much!
I am getting close to cutting a deal... could fall through.
Why is it that everyone wants more than I want to pay? ? ? ?

I ran 18" Carrera IVs with Michelin Pilot Alpins on my 2009 C4S for a couple of winters. They fit fine with 15mm spacers (I had H&R) - the tires were 235s up front, 265s in the rear (narrower is better for winter). It's a great setup.
