Time to get one. What do you use? What do you recommend if you don't like it?

I have a Craftsman low-profile aluminum one. It has served me well for the past several years.

OTC Model 1532 2 ton aluminum racing jack. Weighs 43 lbs, low profile, dual pump pistons, rubber saddle pad, well known American company that makes equipment for the auto industry (although some jacks are manufactured in China), lifetime warranty. Available on Amazon for $219. I've been extremely happy with mine.

Look at the "racing" jacks at Harbor Freight. Yea, I know everyone thinks they just handle crap, but I've had mine for years and I love it. It looks exactly like the ones they sell for twice as much.

If I were buying one today it would be the Arcan XL-35A, it is sold at Costco. Google it, reviews are Outstanding, it is low Profile, and 3.5 tons means it can handle most anything.

I saw it at the store and it is nice, I will buy one at some point, but I have an aluminum 1.5 ton that has served me well for 5-6 years. When I feel I need another I am getting the Arcan.

Be sure it's aluminum and low profile.

+1. You can't get a regular jack under some of our cars and the jacks that will lift 3+ tons are usually not aluminum and weigh over 100 lbs. The 2 ton aluminum jacks are much easier to manage and have plenty of capacity for most uses.

A floor jack that works with JackPoint Jackstands would be my choice. See https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...ackstands.html dave

I have had good luck with the one I bought there. (so far) Not like the other disposable tools I have purchased there in the past.

X2 I have the same jack that came from Costco. Used it for years now...even on my F150 crew cab 4x4. A 911 would be nothing for that jack. And agree, if you're not popping into a HF store once in a while you're missing out. Sure they sell SOME crap but you can pick up some specialty tools very cheap there, stuff you might use once or twice but will always have in the future. We have a store locally so it's easier to put your hands on the stuff and evaluate the level of "crapiness". That jack is legit though. I also have their 50' air hose reel and retractable extension cord, both ceiling mounted and both are solid products at a fraction of what you'll pay for the same products at "garage" retailers.

I purchased an AC Hydraulics jack ~10 years ago when I was a very active autocrosser and frequently working on the M3. The company is Danish and they claim to be "Made in Denmnark". This is the jack that I purchased: http://www.ac-hydraulic.dk/en/produc...ks/dk20-dk20q/.

The company that I purchased from no longer sells AC Hydraulics, but it's available from Pelican Parts for 'cough' $539. It's a great product, but I have also had good results with the Chinese aluminum jacks.

I also have one of the Harbor Freight alum jacks. It looks exactly like the one in the post above. I have had it for years and it is on it's second Porsche. Works perfect and I think it was 59 bucks with one of those coupons out of a magazine. Maybe some people think they need to spend a lot of money for a jack but this one really does work great. I put a hockey puck on the lift and it joins the jack points beautifully.

The best jack made is the AC Jack

http://www.acjacks.com/

The DK13HLQ is a High lifter with long reach, ideal for cars with low clearance
Great for lifting Porsche’s, BMW’s, Mercedes, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, M3s, Vipers and many others. No need to drive up on ramps or place 2x4’s under the tires to reach your lifting points.
