Default Battery Maintainers

I usually drive my 07 C2S enough that I don't need a battery maintainer, however it's been so cold and icy here I haven't been able to get the car out for 2 weeks. I figure I probably need to pick up a battery maintainer. Should I go with the Porsche one is there something else I should be considering? I think the Porsche one is a cigarette lighter one. My car doesn't have the notch in the weatherstripping, how do you run it through the door if you don't want to keep a window down?

I believe the CTEK 3300 is the OEM'd version of the p-car maintainer if you want to save some $$. I installed a hard wire line(with fuse) to the battery directly and then ran the line through to the windshield wiper cover/tab. Easy to access from the outside and I connect her up everyday. Thought I would have to replace the plastic tab by now but it's still working properly after almost 2 yrs of ownership. Just make sure to disconnect and cover it up properly with the plastic cover/tab each time before going out. GL.

I just close the door with the power cord running out the bottom of the door. I haven't noticed any ill effects from this procedure. I have the Porsche model and like it very much.

I would recommend a battery maintainer instead. Disconnecting the battery requires a very specific series of actions to get back into the car. Do a search or read up on this procedure in the owners manual... it's a real PITA as some forum members have had the displeasure of learning after the fact. Plus having the car alarm enabled is a bit comforting for security purposes.

makes sense. I'm buying the CTEK 3300 then, hopefully the wires are as long as the Porsche ones, 30ft.

If not there are numerous extension and connector options if you have a Batteries ETC store nearby. Otherwise Amazon or ebay is the way to go. I spent a little more(about the same as I would have for the p-car branded maintainer) to get a Battery Minder 12248 which was more capable and included all the options.

Awesome, I went ahead and bought the CTEK 3300 on Ebay. Even comes with the cig. lighter plug.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190629049590...84.m1423.l2649

which mode do I leave it on when it's on storage for the winter? The car or the one with the snowflake?

Read the instructions. I believe you use the Snowflake setting if the car is stored at temps below 41 deg F.

It really, totally doesn't matter, a simple diode with power resistor (Household AC line...160 volts peak -14 volts = 146 volts at 2A max = 300 watt 73 ohm resistor.

not suggesting that this is anyone's solution, just an indication of how simple-minded an automotive lead-acid battery maintainer needs to be. Thus assumes that we're talking "maintainer" not charger.
