If you end up replacing the clutch, and since they have the transmission open, you may want to think about a new flywheel if you're looking for that type of performance mod.

how cold is it in mtl these days? Hydraulic clutches get extremely lethargic and "sticky" at startup until warm when it's cold out (-10 colder) - which is what it almost sounds like you were describing... especially if you said it was fine afterwards

My BMW did 190km on one clutch and I was also driving it like crazy all the time , but I'm first time Porsche owner since last April , I'm still fresh , I've been BMW all my life , just put winter tires on it , and cost an arm and leg and now clutch and the holidays all together , it's a good way to finish the year haha

Mine did the same thing and it turned out the pressure plate failed. I recommend having the repair done at the dealer since they may have a shot at some sort of good will from Porsche. Pressure plates shouldn't fail.

These clutches should last 100,000 miles without replacement assuming you know how to drive a manual transmission car and don't get silly with it. The 997.1 cars had the self adjusting clutches on the S models only (which is yours) while the 997.1 non-S cars didn't have it. By the time the 997.2 cars arrived Porsche put in the self-adjusting clutches across the line--both normal and S models have them now.
The real issue at hand is how to drive a manual transmission car. Do not accelerate when the clutch pedal is not fully released. Just give it a little gas to get it going. For example, I often release the clutch when going from stop into first gear at about 5 mph. The secret is to never hit the accelerator hard for power when the pedal is not fully released. The characteristic clutch smell will tell you when you screw up. It takes some practice with the footwork to do this correctly.

I just needed to replace my clutch at 42k. Cost: $2300. I looked into the DIY (Suncoast parts at under $700), but quite frankly don't have the time...
I'm a bit confused as I have owned and driven many manuals - and several from new to 100k - and have NEVER had to replace a clutch. I bought the "S" under CPO at 25k about two years ago, but the car had zero type III or above over-revs.
I must be doing something wrong.

I replaced my clutch at 50k miles. I bought the car with 30k. Judging from the avg speed from the DME of 30 mph, the previous owner had a similar driving mix as me, which is about 70/30 city/highway.

Do you rest your foot on the clutch pedal? I test drove a 911 a few years ago and the clutch was smoked. Apparently, the gent that owned it had a stroke and traded the car in for an automatic. The stroke had affected his left side so his right leg was weak. He apparently rested his foot on the clutch all the time.
I've notice while riding with people that they slowly disengage the clutch after the car is moving shifting through the gears.
