Swapping 997.1 tail lights for 997.2?
Has any here swapped out their 997.1 tail lights for 997.2 factory led ones and how simple is it to do?
I have a 2008 997.1 S

Porsche redesigned the bumper in such a way that it is a physical impossibility. That led to a couple of companies developing their own LED versions of the 997.1 rear (and front) lamps. Personally, I prefer the older design shape (with LEDs) because it's truer to the traditional Porsche shape. I also like the fronts (with retrofitted LEDs) because they wrap around a bit more than the 997.2 fronts do.
Here are a couple of shots to show the 997.1 with LEDs retrofitted. (Taken at a recent outing for fresh apples near San Luis Obispo).

I thought when I bought my 997.1 recently I'd jump to buy some dectane LED tails but I'm turned off by the issues some people have had with them. That as well as I think those kind of look a bit off. I think I am going to buy a pair of full red OEM tails and swap out some bulbs for led bulbs just for blinkers. I think I want the car to look original. Besides, these are the LAST non LED cars. I have a feeling in the coming years we are going to miss the slow glow regular bulbs give off.

The LED aftermarkets I went with are RotTec. Work pretty well. Some fogging up occasionally.
Yes, from the photo you can make out the ceramic painted tailpipes. With all the black soot I would get the black ceramic treatment makes that less trouble at cleaning time.
True, when Porsche redesigned the 997.2 cars they eliminated the fog lights or 'driving lights.' They found that the Bi-Xenon headlights put out a very wide beam that essentially eliminated the need for the driving lights. The only switch position left on the 997.2 cars is to turn on the rear fog.

Dectane is the way to go for rear LEDs, looks very much OEM. Many folks mistaken my 997.1 for 997.2 from the back.

Edgy01 sweet cab you have there.
I think you got your wires crossed though. Driving lights are synonymous with high beams; they are not fog lights. Bi Xenon's do a great job of putting light were you need it and keeping out of where you don't.
The idea behind fog lights is to shine light under the fog where it does not sit rather than try to cut through it. Ideally headlights are off when using fogs. I think the problem is that most people don't know how to use them properly or can't use them properly even if they tried. It's my opinion they got rid of them because the vast majority do not use them as intended whether it is due to ignorance or just bad engineering.
I have that frustration here in Canada where we have mandatory DRL. On some cars here a driver can't even shut off the headlights and have fogs on exclusively. In other cases where DRL is low wattage high beam it is a bit better but still puts out enough light in fog to make driving very hard because there is still a lot of light reflected back off the moisture in the air. On my pickup I retrofitted HID projectors into my fogs and it is amazing to drive in those conditions. The light is strong and it stays low to the ground.
In the end they save two bulbs on every car they make now.
