Default Consolidation Help/Opinions Please

I am considering consolidating from 2 drivers down to 1 car. I currently drive 2011 Audi B8 S4 as my primary daily driver and highly modded 1996 993 C2 to get my jollies on the nice days.

My wife drives a 2011 BMW X5, so we have a vehicle if the weather gets really bad.

I am currently considering consolidating the S4 and C2 to a 997 C4s or possibly a 991 C4s. I drove a 991 C2s and really enjoyed the car. I was suprised that the car still has some edge for a modern car.

My question to you guys is what do you think about the consolidation? Here is the comprimise...having only one daily driver, my S4 is sprung a little too soft and the C2...well...it's a little too edgy

Here are my basic questions:

What is the difference between 997.1 and 997.2.

How different is the 997 from the 991?

I am not looking to bash any of these cars/models just looking for some insight and opinions from folks who know and may have more experience than me.

TYIA

I don't know that 993 looks pretty nice.

I say get rid of the Audi and add a 997.2 C4S as a daily driver. That model has possibly the best looking rear-end ever.

Great looking 993. The real difference for me was in '09 Porsche released the 997.2 which had the direct fuel injection and an engine with fewer parts to go wrong. They also added the LED lighting to the car. Regardless of that, I think any 997 is a good car.

Some other things to consider... .A lot of people say the DFI engines in the 997.2 do not sound as raw as the 997.1

The PCM navigation in the 997.1 (05 model anyway) is useless. I have Siri so this doesn't bother me.

I believe the 997.2 Carrera S has 385hp while the 997.1 has 355hp. Not sure how much faster that makes the later model though...maybe someone else can chime in on that.

That's a great looking 993.
I think you have the perfect car setup.

Great choice in cars! I have the B7 RS4 and a 997.1 targa 4S and love both cars - it would be hard to part with either one. If you go to 1 car, I'd go with a 997 C4S or targa 4S since you can run it all year in CO with some winter tires. As others have stated, the 997.2 does give you the LEDs (you can buy aftermarket ones for the 997.1) and 30 more hp.

I need 4 doors enough that I would need to keep the sedan.

I agree with all the previous posters. I have had both a 997.1 and a 997.2 S models. The PCM in the newer version is far superior, although I think most would agree still not great. The 997.2 is a little quicker, maybe 2/10 second 0-60, manual tranny. I like the engine sund better in the older version, but my 997.2 had sport exhaust that, when activated, made up for the less appealing basic exhaust note. Personally I was not crazy abut the LED lighting, but many people do like them.

Forget the 991.......get the 997.2 and the C4S is, IMO, the king of them all! Love the rear!!!

Bad-*** Turbos are down in price now too. Nice wide rear end with a lot of extra options. The year to get is the 2009 with the original 3.6 Mezger engine and the new PCM. Just a thought...

I'm sure you've been reading the "C4S as daily driver thread"...

I'm also in colorado and the car works great for me. I've owned both 997.1 and 997.2 C4S, and do like the .2 better. A little more power, I prefer the sound of the new Sport Exhaust. Also think it's one of the prettiest 911s ever produced, except maybe for the 993 Turbo I had. My avatar pic has my winter wheels and tires.

I've been thinking hard about the 991 C4S. Have had the opportunity to drive 991s for a few days and I really like the car. Personally I will probably wait 3 years or so. In terms of price, you may still find some 2012 C4S cars at a discount. Base on the 991 C4S is about $105k, and I bet you'll be around $120k by the time you put in the "necessary" options.

PM me if I can be of any assistance!

With a 997.2 C4S you get 95% of the performance of a 991, for 75% of the price, and approx 245% of the aesthetics. The last is purely subjective, but, depending on the individual, it can run as high as 1,000%

Thanks for the complement. The 993 is a great car, and was great fun to modify and work on...but not a all year dd for me. Right now, the car is pretty sorted. I'm sure it will pleasure its new owner immensely.

I need to test drive a 997.2 C4S.

Thanks,

Sound is very important to me. Good tip. Thank you. I thought I read on this forum somewhere where Darin Fister is working his magic.

I am not really a Nav fan especially early gen versions. Good stuff to consider.

More Hp is usually better

Thank you,

Thank you. I am very fortunate.

Maintaining 3 cars however is a PITA. I am neurotic about keeping them all fluffed and buffed.
