Default Help me convert my 997.1 C2S to an X51 equipped C2S

Hi there

My car currently has the exhaust manifolds, PSE, centre radiator and under trays.

I now want to do the intake manifolds, plenum and throttle body, I shall keep my stock air box for now and fabricate a hose to connect it to the larger throttle body if the stock hose is not big enough.

Why am I doing it this way? Well the carbon air box cost circa $3500 and will not yield a lot more horsepower over the stock air box with BMC filter. Whereas the polished X51 intake manifolds, X51 plenum and X51 throttle body will yield greater power gains and cost about $2000 though it will take longer to install.

Question is I know I need the following parts:-
Intake Manifolds: #997.110.115.40*X2
Throttle Body: #997.605.116.00
Distributor Pipe:*997.110.416.40

I am sure there be other parts too, compulsory ones such as gaskets for the intake manifolds and throttle body as old ones will be perished and might not fit.

But will I need anything else? I've heard tank vent lines mentioned and rubber sleeves etc.

Just need to ensure I don't order stuff I already have or can use but at the same time not be short.

So has anyone done this, converting to X51, can you help with the above please?

Aren't there other elements of the X51 package too like revised cylinder heads, camshafts with more aggressive profiles, a different Varioram intake plenum, and new programming for the Bosch Motronic engine management - you going to do that too?

I did this on my car. On 997s the camshafts are the same for the regular or X51 cars. The complete parts list is extensive and a dealer can provide you with all that information.

Nope.

My intention is to do the intake modifications, it is no different than people who change plenum, airbox etc. Th only extra step I am doing is to do the intake manifolds too, this then allows me use Porsche's X51 plenum which means I am keeping to O.E. parts and not using a 3rd party plenum such as IPD.

Because I am just doing the intake part, the cars ECU can re-learn or if required I can use softronic.

Not required, I am changing just intake manifolds, plenum and throttlebody, people change plenums and throttlebodies all the time with no issues, if I have an issue I can speak to Softronic for a tune.

I can do the install myself, its not complicated!
Intake manifolds 4hr-6hr job, change spark plugs at same time too.
Plenum - 30 minutes
Throttlebody - 30 minutes

A Porsche veteran would do the above in sub 4hrs quite easily.

you can buy '09 'S' car right now for close to $60k if you look around, it is a simpler way to proceed now than to upgrade M97 motor.

for $20k best way is to ship your car to flat6 shop and jake raby will make it into 4L engine with 70-80 more hp, way more than you can get from a simple x51 kit. seriously, if you want to get real power gain - speak to flat6 first, it will cost you same money as to mess with a x51 kit install.

Guys

The parts I am talking about doing is $2200 from Porsche, where is this $20,000 figure coming from?

The parts cost $2200ish guys, I repeat $2200ish just shop aroundt he various Porsche dealers.

From talking to dealers I've pretty summed up all the parts I need I think now.

There isn't more to the X-51 option that that? I find that a little hard to believe. But good luck regardless.

I think folks (me included) thought you were asking about an x51 conversion. After re-reading your post I see you're just adding some x51 parts.
