I started my car this morning (had driven it 3 or 4 times yesterday) and instantly heard an extremely loud static/crack sound through my Bose speakers, like lightning strike through speakers, and now have no sound. The car had not been wet, I did not have a charger on it...any ideas? The PCM works, but no radio system.

Sounds like you need a new amplifer.
I had a similar noise and dealer replaced amp under warranty. Works fine now.
While I was waiting for the ordered part ( 2or 3 weeks), I was able to listen to the radio without the amp. Music was poor quality, but talk was ok.

Thanks bdiamond, but I have no sound at all, radio or otherwise....

Sounds like it could be a blown amp - though it could be the preamp or the power amp stage.

Here's the new wrinkle....got in the car after work this evening and all is well..go figure. Thanks for everyone's help, fingers crossed.

Loose plug/connection somewhere?
