what would you do?
Hello drivers
I got an aftermarket horn for my Targa.
Sent an email to a local indy guy asking if he can install it for me.
A day goes by: no reply.....
I send another email that's a bit more curt this time: answer comes in the form of a YES.........with a "you can drop it off...." suggestion...
I send another mail asking of I can hang out/watch/learn as I don't have anyone to collect me......
the guy sends the same email with the same vauge YES..........actually he did not even bother to write a new message to me.....
The only other time I went here was for a brake light bulb.......that took three trips to actually get.........but finally got it...
I'm sitting here srcatching my head wondering why this guy does not
want MY business.......
the dealer told me they could do it too......at 125 an hour.....that the bumper would need to come off and it would take them about three hours.......
would love to have any thoughts about what you gents would do......
many thanx

Just did my horns myself (took advantage of having to take the bumper cover off to repair it after hitting a racoon!). It is a DIY job, but a bit daunting for me. Took me about 4 hours to do using this AMAZING photo step by step
(http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album430). It's not what I would call "easy" but definitely do-able. The damn horns were about $200, so if your shop quotes 3 hrs ($360, right?) plus $200 for horns, think about doing it yourself. I don't think there is a way to remove/replace them w/o pulling the bumper cover. Gives you a chance to clean your radiators, too!

Keep in mind that many mechanics may not be computer savvy or have the time to respond to emails since it pulls them away from their work.
Having said that I would give him a call or speak with him in person. If he still brushes you off then you definitely need to find another mechanic.

A lot of things need to come off to get to the horn, unlike most other cars, so I had it done at my Indy, charged me 2 hours of labor. Your contact may not be email savvy so make a call or find another vendor.

BTW, regarding the weak sounding horn, I drove for a couple of years with only one of the two horns working (a known weak link) and every time I used the horn, I had to look in the rear view to see if I'd run over Bozo!
Now, with both units operational, it sounds damn powerful to me, but that's probably not a broad cross section view. I don't feel the need for a bigger blast now.
