I have an Escort 9500 iX and wouldn't go any other way. The GPS technology can't be beat for eliminating false alarms and is every bit as sensitive for picking up radar and laser signals.

I've had both a V1 and the 9500 iX.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I really, really like my K40 RL360. I like that it's fully integrated, the remote is nice and then the laser diffuser is quite cool too.

Do you guys with the v1 use the standard windshield mount or do you use a special mount/bracket?

I use the suction cups and place it just to the upper right corner of the Rear View Mirror.

My V1 is suctioned cupped up high -- but not so high the unit is "looking" out through the band of tinting at the top (I do not know if this affects the reception but I'm not about to find out the hard way) -- about center of the driver's side windshield. This places the V1 just to the left of the GPS/NAV unit which is just to the left of the inside rear view mirror.

In some states (AZ -- don't ask) this placement is illegal and will get your @ss chewed out and told to move it or lose it by an AZ state trooper suffering from glazed donut withdrawl. (Ok, I knew you were going to ask...).

Anyhow, that is where it is unless I am in AZ in which case I use the sun visor mount (actually pretty nice) and mount the unit to the passenger side visor.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Macster--the window tint is non-metallic and thus does not attenuate any RF signals. Go ahead and move it up higher.

V1. As high on the windshield as possible. Mine went bananas in Ka last night driving home on the 405 in LA at 9pm. Picked up the LEO behind me at least a mile before he eventually passed me. I was doing 82 when it went off. I was doing 65 when he passed me. :-)

I have a v1 but radar detectors are illegal in my state so it gets most of its use on road trips. No complaints at all.

+1.

9500 is the ONLY ONE to get if you live in a city with lots of false alarms.

If you live/drive mostly on Highways or burbs, then V1 or non-GPS top detectors from Escort of Bel would do,

I use a Solo cordless unit, no hardwiring, no dangling power cords. Has worked well for me.

If the ease of transferring the detector between cars is important, this unit is the model of simplicity and is very desireable for that reason.

I'm on my third one, and couldn't be happier.

V1's claim to fame is identification of the direction of the signal. When my detector beeps, I don't care if it is from front, rear or sides, I slow down till the threat is clear, direction is irrelevant.

I can not get over having a cord dangling in front of me and for everyone else to see......not happy with having to disassemble half the car to install a 9500ci either.

Solo S3 will be. Thanks for suggesting it!
