Durametric is amazing
I purchase the Durametric tool several years ago for my 996. I initially just used it to reset the reoccurring airbag light and view basic engine information. I have an 07S Coupe now and used the tool to check the engine prior to purchasing the vehicle two years ago. My newest revelation is that I just checked my TPMS remaining battery life. I am about to remove the tires and wondered if I should replace the TPMS as they are over five years old. To my surprise I was able to directly view the remaining battery life in all four wheel sensors. For your information the battery life remaining on an August 06 build 997 is a low of 19 months on one and 22 months on the others. Pretty cool tool!!!!

I don't know how to post a you-tube, but I can walk you through how to do it. First of all you have to make sure you have the updated software. Go to their site and download the latest version if you don't have it. I think it is version 6. When you plug into your car...key on and flashers going. The flashers insure the system doesn't turn off in two minutes. Enter your car description from the options... turbo, non turbo etc, as well as transmission type. If your car is a manual you leave it blank. After you do that, a list of stuff appears on the left. Go to TPMS and go to option "actual values". You will see a list of more stuff and you have to scroll down and check the boxes indicating the four wheel sensors. They will be listed by FR, FL, RR, RL. They are not together so just keep looking as you scroll. As you check the boxes, the battery life in months for that wheel appears like magic in the area below. This information saved me the price of the tool in unneeded sensors. I can't wait to find out other fun stuff that I have no idea about now!!!!!

Thanks for the post gla. TPMS is a hot topic now as our 997.1 are coming of age for the battery to start failing. Will link to our Durametric post on the DIY sticky.

Now if only we could set the service interval reminder to 1 year/10k miles, like the car had when delivered (rather than the pointless reset to the 2 year/20k major service interval that it does).

So I checked my TPMS battery life and three are good with 34 months left, and one is completely dead. I doubt it's actually the battery going dead. More likely the unit is broken somehow.

just checked mine today and with an in service date of 4/2008, all 4 sensors are still at 36 months, is this maybe a function of not calling up the process very often or what? great info, and i have barely scratched the surface...
