Default Labor cost for IMS when doing clutch

Planning on the doing a clutch and IMS while I'm at it. Reviewed the cost shown in Excellence so I have an idea of the parts/labor breakdown for the clutch. On the IMS side I know the cost of the part. How much should I expect to pay for Labor on the IMS side? It seems that there is overlapping labor and just want to understand how much to expect to pay on the labor side for the IMS only. Thanks

First is your IMS bearing serviceable without an engine tear down?
If you have the "smaller/older" IMS bearing, the replacement is quite simple since the transmission and flywheel will be removed. I say about 2 hours to sway the bearing.

I believe my indy wanted 10-12 hours at $90 an hour for the IMS. I bet with a clutch you are looking at 15 hours. Do you really need a new clutch? What is your mileage? Suncost parts has the clutch replacement kit available so you could check out that cost (no affiliation).

Thanks. I have the smaller bearing. I have 70k miles and do need the clutch. I'll look at suncoast. So sounds like there are additional hours of labor to do the IMS. 3 - 5ish. That sound right?

since you're doing all this, i would replace the RMS, very very simple, about 30 minutes top.

If you already need a clutch there is no question I would also replace the rear main seal with a fresh one, and do an IMS if you are a candidate. Flat 6 says they replace the flywheel bolts during the clutch and IMS. The bolts do not appear to be in the suncoast factory 997 kit ( pressure plate, disc, release bearing) for $700.

Let me (us) know how the service goes as I will be in your boat shortly.

1. 100% do both IMS/RMS as you're in there
2. 3-5 hrs sounds reasonable, although could even be less with clutch out, but that's ballpark what I've seen
3. Decide whether to do LN Engineering bearings, or OEM

Speaking from actual experience, my Indy quoted 2-3 more hours for the IMS. I believe he landed on 2 hours. I was actually under the car looking around while the tranny was out, and 2 hours seemed fair. There's apparently some labor invovled with setting/locking the cam, which is hard to visualize until it's out. I think I was 14-15 hours all-in (cluth, IMS, RMS). By the way, +1 on the RMS...a new seal is like $30, and you'd be wise to replace that too.

for the RMS so the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" shouldn't apply? I have no leaks and no sign of past leaks. worried about breaking the seal

The RMS seal is a "wear and tear" item, the inner part of the seal will wear off with every crankshaft revolution. At 70k mile, this is a no brainer given that you have a clear access to it.

I typically charge an extra 2 hours for an IMS bearing on top of the clutch for a total of 10 hours. Book on a clutch IIRC is 8 hours, if you are paying more than that, you are getting robbed.

Default New - to me 997.1

Indy quoted me 13? hours for a clutch and air/oil separator. Total cost $3600 if a new fly wheel is required. $2600 no fly wheel. Opinions welcome! New car purchase is a ‘07 c2s cab with 61k miles. PPI was very good other than the clutch fwiw. TIA

How much more is this labor for a 996 C4 vs. a C2? I assume the AWD requires more disassembly.

Are there many other jobs that the C4 inflates the price of in labor?

Thanks!
