Default These cars really are a joy

I don't need a car where I live. I can get anywhere by tram or train. But I still take her out nearly every single night...if only for a 10min drive. Probably not good for the motor since I don't always get her up to full operating temp. But I can't help it. she's like a siren...I'm constantly lured into hopping in the driver's seat and feeling the steering...the shifter...the adaptive sport seats...the sound of the PSE.

Is there any other car that is so engaging and genuinely pleasurable to drive?

Yes there are several other European cars that are pure pleasure to drive, but none at the Porsche price point.

I feel the exact same way......I look for reasons to drive...places I can go....people I can see. Like tomorrow...haircut about 30 miles from me. Then maybe a 40 mile trip to see a friend ....then later dinner with my sister....lots of driving tomorrow and I'm already smiling about it!!

I own and in the past have owned a lot of cars considered to be car enthusiast darlings...Datsun 240Z, Porsche 944 Turbo S, E30 M3, S54 MCoupe, E39 M5 etc...all have been great fun with their own characters...the 997S definitely stacks up in the fun factor, and is quite comfortable and practical to boot.
The other car that I feel is consistently a lot of fun to drive is the humble Mazda Miata.

I can add another car to the list of entry-level-sports-cars-that-are-fun-to-drive. The Fiat X-19. I had one back in the day, and though it was not fast, it handled like it was on rails!

Having said that, I have to say that there is no comparison to my C2, but for a low cost sports car it was really fun!
