I'm considering a 997 Targa. The question is whether the glass roof transmits a lot of heat. I live in South Florida, so it can get really hot here for much of the year.
It doesn't transmit very much heat. Yes, a little more than a standard roofed car but the glass top and sunshield do a great job of blocking the heat. I have access to covered parking at work so I try to park there in the hot summer days to keep the heat down. If I park uncovered, I use a windshield cover. It cools down pretty quickly even when it gets hot.
The sunscreen helps a lot if you park in an uncovered location.
It's noticeable if you park it uncovered during full-sun hours.
However, I don't notice it much (if at all) when moving with the AC on.
The glass itself does not 'radiate' heat, if that's what you're asking.
Amazingly practical car.
Even more amazingly fun.
It is my understanding that very soon now a "retro" Targa will be available.
I'd rather have an actual T-TOP but an old style Targa, like my '78, will do. And maybe, just maybe, it will have throttle body injection as an adjunct to DFI to prevent EGR fouling of the intake valves AND the entire intake plenum.
And I notice that the current Subaru WRX does not run the A/C 24/7, only if actual cooling, cabin cooldown, is needed.
I've tinted my rear hatch 20%.. As for the roofglass, I'm thinking about 40%. Leaving the car in the sun, the interior does get hot. But.. I wouldn't trade my '07 Targa for any other model. It's a great car..
Thanks for the replies. I would have to leave it out a lot, when at work, and live in South FL where the sun blazes all day long. I guess I could open the top when starting for a few minutes when it is hot out. Down here it would be open in the evening and winter mostly.
