Because the car is a left hand drive and noises at first seem to be coming from the left side of the car.

For best chances of locating the noise the car should be placed on a lift with the noise present and then one can listen from all around and under the car and a much better idea of where the noise is coming from can be obtained.

It is where the noise is coming from that really helps narrow down the possible causes.
