Default Upgrading to the X51 Carbon Airbox...

Since this week has been hell at work, I decided that I needed to splurge a little to try to compensate my unhappiness hilarious
Anyway, I was checking my usual suspects on Thursday, when I saw this:

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/x51air.html

They had a closeout special and only one available! I ordered immediately.

Anyway, got it on friday and by 10AM saturday morning it was installed!

Really love the look of this, installation was a snap and Suncoast provided with an array of parts needed, including a pre-installed MAF! Kudos to the Suncoast Team... I cut the hole on the deck lid and now the car breathes better with some smoothness on the power delivery and more noticeable torque at low speed... This is like a supermodel that knows how to cook! hilarious

Enough with the talking and enjoy the pictures!

These are the pictures with the extra opening...

Driving impressions:

I only did a short drive around the block after the initial install (only one opening on the deck for air) and another after the opening was made, so the computer had time to recalculate the amount of air is receiving now...

This morning was a real test as I have 10 miles of city driving and 40 miles of hwy driving at 6:00AM. The car feels and behaves like a different animal. (take in consideration that this is my daily driver, so I can pin point any difference easily). Not necessary more power but a more smooth delivery. More torque is felt under initial acceleration and the car seems to rev faster. When driving with WOT... it's an OMG experience. The intake sound, a blend of mechanical + air wooshing plus my FisterD exhaust is a pleasure to hear... I can't wait once I finish all the other mods (Plenum, TB, race cats) and the Tune. I know I'm going to be VERY happy!
Again, Suncoast (I've been a customer for 6 years now!) came thru again. Even that I have 2 Local Porsche Dealers very near to me, I rather deal with Ric, Ryan and the team at Suncoast Motorsports!

I will get the X51 TB this week... (82mm, same as the GT3RS)... to be continued...

BTW, did you do the cutout yourself?
I'd love to get my hands on a well priced x51 airbox.

That x51 airbox is pure car candy. Let us know how the cutout DIY works for you.

cutout was easy... but I'm not affraid with a dremel tool in my hands! you have to cut twice... the metal part and then, the plastic on top of that. it took me 20 minutes...

That looks so much better then the stock piece of plastic!

Does it use the same air filter as the stock box?

The aftermarket CAI manufactures could really take a lesson from Porsche on this design as a true CAI...

That was always a beautiful airbox. Despite the discount, I recall when the boxes were closer to $2000 when the X51 package first surfaced for the 997. For some reason they went up astronomically. I hope the carbon fibre holds up better than the stuff they put INSIDE the car. With all that heat and other environmental issues it may suffer an early failure. Stay on top of it, and if you see signs of issues contact Porsche ASAP!

The X51's carbon fiber is not a laminated plastic glued with a carbon fiber skin. these ones are actually made of carbon fiber entirely. the only plastic part are the two snorkels. Pretty impressive...
