Upgrade or Not? '07 Carrera S to '11 Carrera
#16
The '11 is probably another 10k after trading in my '07.
This is a really tough decision as I have come to a lot of the rationales that many here have come up with it. It definitely seems like a lateral move depending on how I want I drive it - sporty vs casual.
The other question is what do we think the PDK value will be in the future if I want to trade up down the road.

not quite the same, but i moved from an '08 C4S to an '11 C4S, even the same color although significantly higher end build.
Very happy with my choice - I think the 997.2 is a better car in many ways. Daily driver year-round, so I love the PDK.

Went from a well equipped 06 997S MT to a similarly equipped, with a few extras 09 997S,plus PDK.
Better gas mileage, more power, much better PCM functions.
Occasionally miss the manual, but, play with manual mode with PDK.
Each iteration of the 911 becomes more refined. Since my original roots were started in 71 with a new 911T, I find some of the early quirks, which were exciting, are gone, however,
The refinement has created a much more forgiving and comfortable experience.
I don't believe I will go beyond my 997.2, at this point, after having driven a 991.
Perhaps, at some point I will go back to those air cooled days of yesteryear again.
In 09, the deal was too good to pass up, hence, my trade in. I don't think I would do it now unless there was a very special deal.
Good luck, whatever you do. You can't lose if you're driving any 911.

you'll lose money
you'll lose .2L of engine size
you'll lose the bigger breaks (I think)
you'll lose the bigger wheels (I think)
you'll get DFI (determine if that's a good thing or bad thing for yourself)

What do we think the resale will be for 2007 "S" manual with sport package compared to the 11 Carrera PDK with 19" wheels, sport seats, full entertainment/communicationpackage, sport steering wheel, heated seats.
I am sure this won't be my last car so want to make sure I have a good value car if I trade up.

Well, I went the other way, from a 997.2 C4S to a 997.1 C2S. While the PCM is much better in the .2, I actually like the engine sound better in the .1 and the car feels more agile, even quicker. Of course, some of that may be due to the weight increase for the C4.
