April 2005 production, C2 Cab with about 41k miles and CPO, driven at least once or twice a week and at least 50-60 miles per trip. Car has been fine/solid but got CEL about 2 months ago...dealer stated that coilpacks are the cause and replaced under warranty; changed the plugs while they were there. 2 weeks later, got another CEL...went back and they didn't find anything and stated the following on the invoice, "REPROGRAMMING DME CONTROL UNIT. SEND VAL AND TEST DRIVE."
Car has been fine for few weeks and now I got another CEL....just dropped it off at the dealer....Car felt fine in all 3 cases, no rough running or anything, same gas station and gas gap is tight.
Could there something worse lurking behing those CELs? Many thanks.

hmmm...dealer invoice didn't list code(s). Do they normally do that or I have request it specifically?

you'll have to request. Usually, the code will have a number and a short explanation. Probably it said something like "2435 coil pack cyl 2" (I don't know the code numbers offhand). That's what the ECU thinks the problem is. Your job (or thier job) as a technician is to do a root cause analysis on that issue. Is the coil ugly or damaged? could it be something else like a soiled spark plug, bad fuel, ECU bug, faulty crank position sensor that tricks the ECU into thinking the coil is not working.

If they replaced it under warranty then you aren't out any money so I wouldn't get worked up over it. Sometimes it is difficult to find the root cause of a code. At this point I wouldn't get all worked up or worried over it. If it were serious the car would run bad. Badly?

What you are seeing is why I have resisted replacing my spark plugs (now at nearly 70,000 miles). No codes yet (knock on wood) but fear that once you start to disturb things collateral issues will pop up.

well...dealer just called and said it's something related about reprogramming DME after the coilpack/plug change, no big deal and car is ready to go. I don't know enough to question his answers...but CPO runs out today. keep my figuer crossed.
