Default Univeral Audio Interface ... another new iPhone cable.. ugh!

Now with the iPhone5 and Apple's move to go with a wholly new dock connector, the existing two iPhone/Pod interface cables won't work on this new phone... so we get a chance to buy ANOTHER new cable for the car.

Yes, Apple will make an adapter available, but given how tight it is in that small center cubby already with the phone and cable, a few extra millimeters for more adapters may not be available.

Grr...

I think the phone itself is actually longer too. However, can we use the iPhone 5 cable and plug it into the USB slot?
Does the USB port have the same PCM on-screen functionality from a music storage perspective as the in-car iPhone cable?
I'm going to try this when I get home with my current iPhone.

I use a 64 gb usb 3.0 stick for music and work files. If the 256 gb usb stick wasn't so expensive I'd buy one and put my whole collection of music on that. I'll never buy another ipod ever again. Two crapped out on me and had to be sent back to apple. And I only used it at home and in my cars. It's not as if I used it while jogging or subjected it to shock or harsh conditions. Luckily I got everything on my RAID server at home.

I still use an old 60gb ipod and just leave it in the car. The iPhone doesn't store enough lossless tracks anyhow, and this way I never risk leaving my iPhone in the car by mistake.

I need to find it again, but there's a video on youtube that shows you how to connect the iPhone to the PCM via BT

You need the OEM bluetooth option (which I have in my TT) or an aftermarket unit like Dension.

(Hi rodsky, hope you're well!)

Do you have a pointer on how to set this up? I have a .2 with factor BT but have never seen an option for bluetooth audio. Yes, the "phone" part works fine via bluetooth.

Thanks

Bluetooth stream is interesting. But can you control song selection on the PCM with this method or do you need to do it directly on the iphone?

Oh FFS! Hopefully Apple is following a supposed international move to an industry standardized power cable and charger and this will be the LAST charger anyone has to buy. The landfills are getting choked with these, all be it small, old useless pieces of technology.
