6 speed - what RPM/when to shift?
#46
Really?
Huh? Is this even a topic? Redline for me...i redline it whether casual, street, or track, every time.
Save gas? Better for engine? Break-in/warm-up? Sounds boring to me. Why even buy a Porsche? You're better off owning a Prius.
Sure, the transmission will probably have to be entirely rebuilt soon but at least I'm having fun, high-reving fun to be exact.

I let the oil warm up and stay below around 3.5/4k. After that point, I am happiest when shifting between 6.5k to when power starts to drop off near redline. I have bounced off the limiter only a couple times. No harm, no foul.
I never could understand when drivers shift early all the time in a car like a 911. What's the point???

I should add my car is NOT my DD... if it were, my guess is that most of the time I would be keeping it below 5k or 6k... but only for practical reasons (not wanting to have full power on tap at every possible moment...)
