Hello All,
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Ryan. I'm new to the Porsche world of automobiles. After a bit of trolling the forum there is a vast amount that I've learned and still learning about these amazing vehicles. My current car now is a modified Infiniti G35 coupe. I'm mostly active in that car community as well as a team leader/founder of an all G35/G37 car club.
I currently do not own a 997 but I do hope to in the future. My show car is my G35 but now I'm looking towards a late model '05 997 C2 (Carrera? Sorry still learning acronyms) to be my track car starting out. Once I've learned and attended PDS courses I can graduate to a GT2 or GT3.
Anywho, it's a pleasure meeting the forum and I hope to learn quite a bit more knowledge from you all and hopefully meet some members in my local area as well.
Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan, welcome!
You'll have a hard time finding a 2005 997, as that model year is a 996.
2006-2008 are 997.1's
2009-2011 are 997.2's
The new 911 is the 991.
They're all 911's or Carrera's, 996, 997 identifies each particular model using Porches internal nomenclature for each car.
Base models are "C2's" meaning 2 wheel drive. "C4" is 4 wheel drive.
"S" is higher performance than the base, and "TT" means you haul ***. Then you have "GT's", which seem to know about.
Also, "Porsche" is a 2 syllable word...

Ryan,
Welcome, you will find quite a few Houstonians on the board. Remember the search is part of the fun. Good luck and enjoy.
Phx911, just one correction 2005 was a 997 model.

Hey Ryan - welcome to Rennlist? This is a great forum with lots of information and, errr, opinions! All good. You may want to consider an 06 as they made some subtle improvements to the engines over the 05’s. You'll hear the expression "buy the latest model Porsche you can afford". Do you have a budget in mind?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
Insomnic - you're right after a bit of searching I practically find all the answers I need. I may just need to start a thread just to say "Hello" and that I still exist on the forum...Hahah...
Phx 911 - Thanks for breaking the acronyms down for me. Glad to see I wasn't completely off. I do have to ask and the other experts have chimed in their opinion. wasn't the late model 05 the headlight/cosmetic redesign? If so, I was under the impression that it was a 997 at that point? Just curious.
Mdr2001 - Howdy fellow Houstonian! Do any of the local members have a track days or meetups by chance?
Zeus993 - It's funny you mention that b/c I was debating with a late model 05 vs 06. Both are in my price range with the 05 slightly cheaper based on mileage. I have a friend who is willing to part ways with his for 35k but he's a good friend and in my experiences business and friendships don't always work out too well. Also, I figure as it will be my first Porsche and I'm the type of guy who likes to modify my cars so I'm thinking a lower entry price point is better starting out. Then I am able to modify it a bit. A penny saved is a penny earned I guess....or in my case a penny saved is a penny spent on something else...hahah

Welcome, Ryan
You can learn a lot from this forum as well as from a bookstore or Internet. Check out your local Porsche club at their next DE or drivers education event at the local track in your area. PCA or Porsche club of America has local chapters. It's not only about the cars it's also about the people. Good people.
"Search" is your friend on my topics.

Welcome!
You can get some good deals on the 1999 - 2004 Carreras. They're the ones with the "funny headlights".
As always, the newer 911's are the more improvements they have.
Good luck with your search.

Late build cars like mine are designated 997.1
