Right off the bat, apologies for my weak search-fu! ![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
I am looking to replace my 997.1TT head unit with one that supports bluetooth, modern navigation, etc. What I have not been able to find information are details on what is affected by replacing the factory head unit. For example, I know there are some custom settings in PCM for lighting, if I remove the factory head unit what state will these settings be in? Are there any mechanical abilities that are affected? Am I able to fully conserve steering wheel controls? For bluetooth, can dual microphones be installed in the factory steering wheel locations? Any idea on prices I am looking at?
One more thing; how does installation look from a physical perspective? I am guessing it looks like:
Bose wiring -> wiring harness -> adapter module of some sort (?) -> new head unit

Try posting that question on Six-Speed-Online. Over there you will find many more who have tackled that job, and it is a monumental task. Porsche chose the MOST FO ring so that the options were modular.

I have on 06' 997. I went to the dealer inquiring about addition of XM and was told that addition of XM or a CD changer required many hours of labor and thousands of dollars of parts. I found a Xm module from a cayenne. It was essentially plug and play, just connecting the fiber optics. It took 45 minutes. You should not have to change the unit in the dash, which is essentially a display. I think this is the same for navigation or the phone system.

If you have any reasonable skills you can do much yourself. (I installed my own Tookie phone module into the MOST ring without any issues). Made a guide that is here on Rennlist for others to follow.
