997.1 and 997.2 use different round airbags.

nope... depending on each install, you will need the new wheel, airbag and steering wheel control unit. installation is pretty easy. I changed my 997.1 non MF to an all black 2012 997.2 non MF. I did the install myself. didn't need the controller..

Can you post a pic please. Was this a direct bolt on? I know you have to get the airbag too.

I got the wheel from ebay: $250
Airbag new from dealer: $895

That was it for me. If you can remove a nut, you can install this wheel...

you may need the steering control module: $232
Plus dealer Install/PIWIS coding: $150

Wow, they charged you $150 for install ? Big money for a 10 min job.

Most shops and dealers charge an hour labor minimum, not for just 10 mins. It's an easy job, but if you need to code the wheel your choices become limited.

Not every dealer is as greedy, my dealer did it free of charge (the coding).
Took the service manager 2 min. including getting car in and out of work bay.

I wouldn't mind paying that for the piece of mind that the airbag was connected correctly.

after disconnecting the battery and waiting the requisite 15 or so minutes, it's only a ten minute job if you've done it a lot and if everything comes apart as designed.

WRT the airbag being properly connected, believe me, you have to be drunk not to get it right. Porshe does a fine job of making all these parts idiot-proof.

I have done this multiple times, and the first couple it took me far more than 10 minutes. So if you have never done it before and you opt to pay a dealer, I believe an hour is fair.

There is only one way to connect it. Anybody can do it. But if this gives you peace of mind than it is money well spent.

nope, I didn't pay $150 for labor. that was the quote. I install it myself. you have to disconnect the battery. connecting the airbag is really easy. and you will know if you did something wrong the second you re connect the battery.... either an explosion or an airbag light! lol
