Default New Engine or ??

Hit the rev limiter on my car tonight...just wasn't paying attention. Doesn't happen very often, but got me thinking about somehow getting a few more revs.

What do you think...is there something I can do to the car as it stands (2007 997.1) or is a re-engine really the best way to go. And re-engine with what...GT3 motor??

Thoughts...opinions...

I believe that you need the wider 4 or 4s wide body to fit the GT3 engine.

I thought that GT3 is narrow body, RS is wide.

Regardless, I'm guessing it would be more cost efficient to simply buy a GT3.

Thing is...I actually use the seats in the back. I have two younger kids...

What about a GTS? The X51 power kit comes with a higher rev limit I believe.

+1 Upg to GTS would be the most cost effective...

so you did hit a rev limiter, but, what is the big deal?
big deal is to put in 2nd gear instead of 4th downshifting from 5th. that will destroy the motor most likely and then it would warrant a question of 'new engine'.

to put in gt3 motor into 997.1 street car is a very costly idea, if it is not a fully stripped track racer car then there is 0 logic in doing this, and even or race car there is no much sense in going down that road. it is cheaper to buy a gt3 car.

on your motor you can put on softronic flash that will raise redline for 500rpms. if you have extra $10K you do not need much you can rebuild your motor to put in better rods, better rod bolts, etc - get it a bit more robust so it would feel much better at redline rpms with less chances to grenade.

Why don't you spend $20-30k and have your current motor made into a race motor. Lightweight pistons and rods with flow work done on the heads. The car would be amazing.

GT3 engine is a complete new wire harness. Talk to John at BGB in Daytona Beach. He takes stock 997's Carrera S or GTS and turns them into Rolex Grand Am cars. He knows the 997 platform better than anybody else.

Correct - no wide body needed for Mezger engine but as others have said it's not a plug-n-play proposition.

That is GT3 engine, punched out to 3.9, NOT the Carrera engine.

Regardless, the best option is to get a GT3.
