Default Strange rubbing sound when releasing clutch....

Sometimes when I am shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, as I am releasing the clutch the car makes a 'rubbing' sound. It's similar to rubbing your hand on a balloon, or rubber on rubber sound. The sound only occurs occasionally after the car has warmed up.

My car is an '06 C2S manual with 21K miles and is CPO'd. I took the car to the dealer, but they claimed they didn't hear anything when they took it out for a drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Mine has done this too. Only when the car is hot. Not just warm.
Mine just sounds like a creak. It comes from the rear.

My mechanic has said that it is in the clutch linkage. There is a master/slave cylinder on the exterior of the transmission and one on the inside.

Those fittings have a nylon ball or cup that develops a burr. My guy says the remedy is to sand that part smooth and re-grease.

He's done it to the exterior one on my car but that didn't solve the problem. That means it's the internal set. Taking care of that involves dropping the transmission. I'll wait until that is needed for something else.

Hope this help you. Good luck.

Thanks John, did your mechanic say it was something that needs to be addressed (or else it will lead to bigger problems), or just an annoyance with the sound that's not really a big deal?

Try driving your car hard. Seems to alleviate the squeaking for me.

I had bad motor mounts which caused as series of problems: things were not aligned properly and the end of my slave cylinder pushed at a weird angle and it had unusual wear. It also wore out the clutch (clutch plate and pressure plate did not mate up properly) but I did not have any strange noises.

Nothing to worry about. It's just annoying.
