Default Patching A Front Tire

I must have run over a nail near my office recently as my front passenger tire has developed a slow leak, about 5 lbs per day.

The tires are the originals (2006 - Rosso's) with approx. 17k miles on the car.

I need to replace the rears right now.

Do you think based on the age of the tires that I should just replace all four tires or should I have the front tire patched and buy a new set of Rosso's to match for the rear?

I am torn over this age issue of tires and whether they should be replaced simply because they are getting some age on them.

i dont think 6yrs is that old. 17k miles means youre close to the wear indicators and I bet it loud. Frankly I never liked rosso's . Anyway, 4 michelin SS would be my choice.

Replace all four. These cars perform best with a good set of tires.

Must be going around Lincoln. I took a nail in my PZero passenger front with 8K two weeks ago and patched as I just put new PZeros on the rear a month ago. In your case I would go Michelin SSs all around. I am planning on going that route when the fronts wear out.

Thank you all for your replies. I am going to buy a full set of Michelin SS's.

I am done with the Rosso's and looking forward to a better performing tire.

Hey Mander.

Sounds like your putting some miles on your C4S. Good work.

We need to get together some time for a cup of coffee and a drive. There's another guy in my neighborhood who is also a Porsche fanatic and is an instructor. He's game to get together as well.

SS are a great choice. Keep one of the old front tires (without the puncture) as an emergency spare if you have the space at home.

I'd replace as well. The Pirellis have seen the best of their life. Please give me a call direct to order the Michelins. Thanks.

What is the problem with the Pirellis? They came on my 991S and I find them to be quiet and predictable in transition. I've less than 2K on the car, so I can't address how fast they wear. I hated the P Zeros that came on my 09' C2S, mainly because they were so loud above 60mph.

I actually don't think the P Zero is a horribly bad tire. It has always been very noisy and rough, however, I was able to get 17k miles out of the rears and the fronts are still literally like brand new.

I understand the Michelin SS is a much quieter and smoother tire and does not sacrifice any performance.

I just order a new set of SS's and will have them installed this Friday.

Sounds good. I am in and out of the town the next few weeks but after mid August maybe.

I finally changed to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my Carrera S. They are much easier on the driver and stick like glue on the track and road IMHO.

The Pirelli's wanted to 'hunt' a lot and made you work harder. The Michelin seemed to be wearing better also.

The car has since been sold.....alas! I will miss my little white mistress.
