Car was broken into last night!!!!
OK so I parked my car on a fairly nice street in Jersey City NJ and I had 3 cars in front and 3 cars in back. Well somebody decided the Porsche must have money in the car so they first tried to pry the window open and then i am assuming it just shattered. There is a nice chip in the paint on the door and they dented the black trim above the window (look close and you can see it here). I have an adjuster coming tomorrow but I was curious if anyone knows how big a deal it is to replace that black trim???
Beyond pissed. They maybe got $46.00 from the console. They left the Valentine which I thought was odd...

Sorry for the loss, that is just not cool. Crimes of opportunity. I live in a very nice area in SoCal and it doesn't matter; the thieves come here to break into cars.
Very odd they left the V1.

I park in Jersey and take Path to NYC but I park in an indoor parking lot in a reserved spot infront of the security office! I would never park a car outside in Jersey City. Bad idea.

Man.. I'm sorry to hear this. Aren't you the guy who also got booted in JC? I recommend go for the garage. I think the garage near hamilton is less than $200 a month and that's already cheaper than the ticket/boot and the damages. I've actually never seen a 997 parked on the street in JC.

JC was already bad in 1950s when I spent some of my childhood there and in the 60s I went to St. Peter's College there too!
That town got worse not better as the years went by. It's like Asbury Park had beautiful condos by the beach....you can even count the gunshots at night!

I do have to stand up for JC downtown.... it's starting to feel like the downtown area of Cincinnati or Minneapolis or something similar. All the financial companies now have lower rent major centers there to compliment the wall street centers (one train ride away). You'll also find lots of bistros and bars in the area even popping up in the last 6 months. The downtown area is as safe if not safer than anywhere in the NYC area. The crime rates are well down from what it was in the 80's or even the 90's. It's not quite as safe as Hoboken but it's certainly safe enough to have a drunken Snookie and a camera crew wandering around (though no one is happy about that). You'll get your car broken into or booted/towed just as quickly in any other NYC nieghborhood if not sooner.
Some people will always have trouble with the "jersey" name but those people can pay 6x the real estate prices across the river. Actually, usually the people who usually make the most derogatory comments have never even walked a block in New Jersey let alone Jersey City in recent history.
If you go to south JC- absolutely that's pretty rough in the Ocean avenue area. Those areas are not really safe to walk through... I'm not even sure I would drive through there with the 911 at night. But remember, Jersey city is 23 square miles and Manhattan is ~26 square miles- they both have wealthy nieghborhoods and areas that are a bit rougher.
