Default I was looking at getting a 07 ro 08 997

What kind of problems should I look for? Are there any major issues for these years and is there any benifits of one year over the other?

Thanks

07 and 08 are pretty much the same, both could potentially have either rear main seal (RMS) and/or intermediate shaft problems (IMS). To be safe most people would recommend getting at least an 09, as the engine was completely revised and no more IMS to worry about.

My understanding is that ims issues with this vintage are super rare. Rms is more common but typically presents itself early on

The biggest problem is likely with the PCM ( radio/stereo/nav/etc.). The IMS failure is extremely rare for the 997 and of the incidents, I, personally, have read about this only with 2005/2006 models. RMS leak is more likely but simply an irritant.

Tire wear is also one of the noted complaints.

IMS is the same for all cars built after 08/2005 so there is no difference between a car built after that date all the way through until the DFI motors came out.

They all have IMS, I have read that the beaing seal was improved and changed over the 2006 - 2008 model years. Of course there is nothing offical that I can point to on that

I didn't say some didn't have IMS... Of course we all know they all have an intermediate shaft. But the latest IMS bearing started on cars from 08/2005 until the end of the 997.1 production, and it's not just the seal but the whole bearing. That is what I was referring to.

There is one '07 MY TSB's out there which may warrant some consideration: W733. It affected a very limited number of cars produced but you may want to note the VIN's affected. As this is a voluntary fix vs. recall it should warrant some scrutiny. GLW the hunt for the perfect car.
