Except tht the -35 engine is unreliable. Between the fuel pumps, fuel injectors failed turbos, failed VANOS solenoids and carbon buildup, there are better choices. I know, since I had a 2008 535.

Mark 5 golf gti. Surprisingly spacious with lots of torque to offer, even when it's fully loaded with 5 adults.

07 silver camry dd, just runs and runs and doesn't break. Also 98 Dodge 2500 pickup for everything else. I love the Dodge, it makes me appreciate my 911.

+1 on the GTI. I have had a few and they're great. Basically the same 2.0T engine as the A3. I see my A3 as just a higher-end GTI with some more trunk space.

No, you've just described the GT3! My daily driver par excellence...

If I were the OP though, I'd look at Audi S4, AMG C63, BMW M3 or 335.

We are similar in a way. I drive my 997.2 C2S pdk as my daily driver, except in the winter, where I drive my 2008 Subaru Legacy. I still love my Legacy as my winter dd, and decided not to trade it in. I have test driven several other AWD cars to replace my Legacy as my new winter daily driver, but have not liked any of them as much--including the new generation Legacy/Outback (which I do not like), 328 xi, and even an Audi S4. Yes, it's true--I like my Legacy better than an S4!. There's something special about the Gen. 4 Legacy/Outbacks...

2000 BMW 528i. Still looks decent. Comfy, cheap and reliable like no other. When done, sell for near what you paid, in my case 7k, and repeat.

E-28 M5. Totally tricked out by Frank Fahey. Zero understeer and more fun than the Porsche in many ways. It is as much fun to drive a slow car fast as it is to drive a fast car slow.

We are even more alike than you imagine. My wife drives a spec B Legacy Sports Tourer and me a PDK GTS. Though the GTS covers 95% of my needs (including daily commuting and, on winter tyres from Dec-Mar, snowy Sundays) it's no hardship to borrow hers when I need to transport the family across the Scottish Highlands, cram extra gear or children on board. Agree completely: awesome car.

Is it necessary to have a DD in addition to a Porsche though? Am tempted to sell my Gti and keep just one Porsche as the only car. Thoughts?

'10 335i xdrive; the perfect blend of sport and comfort for a DD. Personally couldn't do 911 as DD for many reasons, not least of which insufficient storage/carrying capacity.

Porsches are basically reliable cars. Some of us simply save our garage queens for nice days only and use another vehicle for the nasty commute in snow, salt, rain, road debri, etc.
