Easy breasy - if after 2 years syncros in 2nd and 3rd gear will start grinding bad - it is aisin.

"...The stiff clutch and the high-effort shifter provide further confirmation of the GT3’s dedicated nature when you slip the transmission into first gear. The high shift effort comes in part from the short-throw linkage, which reduces by half the distance the shifter moves between gears. It also reflects that the GT3 uses a race-derived Getrag transmission with heavy-duty steel synchronizers, much shorter gearing, a dedicated oil cooling system, and interchangeable ratios, rather than the Aisin transmission used in other 911s...")
Not according to this link. Even GT3 is made by Aisin.

I am pretty positive that the GT3 6-speed manual transmission is made by Getrag.

But what do I know, Mr. Gboxweb from Colorado sounds more creible than the Car & Driver magazine

Car rags are known for many inaccuracies. Trust but verify.

Thanks, yet I still believe that the GT3 6-speed manual transmission is made by Getrag.

Recall, too, that one of the changes in the 997 model was the addition of steel synchros (for the first two gears).

I was considering doing this until I found out that the chasis does not have the same protective undercoat that the non-GT cars have. This would be an issue in the winter for me.

Oh really? I had no idea. So, basically not as weather proof? and for instance not wise to drive in winter? Wonder why that was done? Weight saving? or for more sound to get into cabin?

What about fitting GT3 engine into a Carrera? I imagine it's a costly proposition, specially with electronics that has to be updated to work on GT3 motor vs. Carrera!

Weight. I seem to remember reading that undercoating on a 911 is in the range of 20 lbs....

If the transmissions are built to spec by a company in Japan, who actually are the designer's of the transmission ?

20 lbs! Wow... makes sense then, as they even used a sticker Porsche badge for front badge!

I looked into this and asked someone who has had multiple GT3s... Those cars do not suffer from lack of undercoating - same as Carreras. The 997.2 GT3 has a lightened tub (no reinforcement for rear seats, no sound insulation). They still can be driven in the rain.

20 more lbs but all weather driving...seems like a fair exchange

Too many double and triple negatives for me to understand . Are you saying GT3s have an undercoating and can be driven very safely in the rain / elements?

Hugh?!? I tried to say that the GT3 is as all-weather driving as a Carrera. The weight loss is internal. Same undercoating.
