I have the happy opportunity to be in the market for a new Porsche. But have the challenge of choosing between 2 great cars.
I currently have a 05 Boxster which I thoroughly enjoy. I drive it on weekends and track it 3 or 4 times year. I now want to move up to the 911.
I found a new 2012 997 C2S for $89k with no sport chrono or any other must-have options. Seems like a great deal?
Contrast that with a base 2013 C2 which I will order with PASM, Sport seats plus, Sport Chrono, 19 inch wheels. (and am considering PDK).
I think they are both great cars which I would enjoy, but I am stuck on the fence. Which way would you go?

I'd go for the 991.

I have a 997 and will never upgrade to the 991 even though I could certainly afford one!! The 991 is not a real Porsche. It looks like a Panamera, the steering sucks and you have to remove the bumper to change your air filter every 4 years. What an abomination!!
Sorry couldnt resist. There are lots of silly threads going on right now about the 991 vs the 997. Doesnt sound like you have driven them so thats the first step. Do that and deciide which one suits you best. There is the old adage about buying the newest Porsche you can but there are differing opinions on the new 991. Drive then decide

Like others suggest, drive them. I just picked up my 11 C4S and looked at the sticker of a base 991S, very close to mine in cost. However lacking many options that I have on my car. I did not drive a 991. To me I wanted my first Porsche to be reminiscent of 911 roots and I've admired the 993 and the 997 through the years. I found my just about perfect example that I want to keep as my first Porsche. To me the 991 interior and exterior is slowly moving away from the sports heritage of the 911 and for now I don't want to be a part of that. I really loved the exterior lines and spartan interior of the 993. Don't get me wrong the 991 is a nice looking car (can't speak to performance and drive as I haven't driven) and would take one if given for free or the cost of a civic. Heck I may end up with a 991 Turbo as my second car in 4-5 years.

Yes, go drive both. You can't go wrong with either one. I went through the same choice and ended up with a lightly used 997.2 even with the intention of ordering a 991. My summary was I could be just as happy or happier for a lot less.

I agree with the others that say go drive them both. They are both great cars. I don't know how much a 991 equipped as you would want it would cost compared to the 997.2 you are looking at, but price will probably influence your decision some.
