New owner question on 997.1 C2 exhaust sound
I have a 2006 c2 and when I step on the gas initially or go in reverse the exhaust make a flutter sound. As I accelerate it goes from a flutter to a healthier sounding exhaust note. I do not have the PSE. I am a new P-car owner. Should it sound like that?

Since no one is chiming in here ....
I have to admit I know nothing about 911's but from experience every time I brought a new ride , cars or motorcycles I was sure something didn't sound right.
Almost 99.9 % of the time it was nothing more than me having to get used to the sounds of a new machine...
Good luck and maybe someone who knows these cars will comment.

Ciao Giacomo,
I also have a new to me 997 from 06 (C4S) and I also noticed that when starting it sounds a bit 'rough' with some strange noises which my BMWs and other cars don't do. I assume its normal but would be interested in having confirmation about this here.

The sound is normal. I had the same reaction when I first purchased my car.
The best way to improve the overall sound is to get a performance exhaust!

It's normal for it to sound "off/rough" at start-up (1st minute or two) then smooth out. I had 4 BMW's before the '08 C2S and had the same concerns initially. Now I look forward to those initial start-up sounds. If it remains rough after the start up period then you may have something else going on. BTW, how many miles on your car and have the spark plugs or coils been replaced? That helped smooth out my car a bit but still snorkels at start-up. Changed my plugs & coils @ 46K. I believe Porsche requires inspection @ 48K and replacement of plugs by 96k miles.

Giacomo, ciao e auguri. Benvenuto!
—are you talking about cold start-up or just under low rpm’s? If the latter, then that too what you hear is normal. It's actually a signature 911 exhaust note that, frankly, I like. I go further: There is a bit of me that misses the loud clatter of the air-cooled 911's of years past.

My car has 47k miles on it and just had the spark plugs replaced as part of the sale. The coils are all factory as far as I know.
