You just pointed out why Porsche improved it.

The shift speed is only one aspect of normal vs sport vs sport plus. I keep my car in sport because I want the revs kept in a higher range and the more aggressive throttle response. Normal lugs the engine so much I worry about LSPI. The only time I use normal is if the road conditions require constant shifting at low speeds (such as a series of speed bumps between blocks). I am not surprised that Porsche dialed in the PDK to the point where they can shift it quickly in any scenario. I wonder if they improved the pre-staging of the shifts. The car still has to predict whether you are going to shift up or down and sometimes if you have to change quickly from braking to accelerating or vice versa, the car takes a beat to get sorted as the Brits say.

Pair it up with the sport exhaust and sport design steering wheel and its fun factor is up there with exotics no BS.
Just got a new to me a 2013 991.1 Carrera S with PDK, Sport Exhaust, sadly no Sport Design wheel, but have made an offer o. one.....I am working on that. I have button shifters, hopefully paddle shifters soon. I on on my second tank of gas...not too many miles. This car performs 150% of my expectations...coming from a 2004 GT3 and most recently a 2015 Cayman GTS...I have experienced performance, but nothing as good as what I am getting from the 2013. This car is an absolute gem!!!!

What I wonder, and am looking for the specifics, is the 2012 991.1 S PDK tranny, the same as the PDK in the Cayman 2015 GTS?

I had all three PDK boxes 997 991 992... after 8 Manual.. The differences between the 3 generations is obvious.
The 997 PDK (Carrera 4S) was a great improvement over the silly Tiptronic, but it was rather temperatmental, and jerky. I drove every mile done with that 997 in Sport Plus, the only way to make it feel reactive and time-saving.
The 991 PDK (I had one 991 4S, and one Turbo S 560hp) was the 'coming of age' of that gearbox... smoother, faster, steadier... it DID still have the very occasional hiccup (downshifting by itself in Manual mode) Oh yes, I forgot, I ALWAYS use PDK in Manual (except on track).
With the 992 generation (992 Carrera S and now 992 Turbo S) we are near perfection... for the first time I drive a PDK car in Normal mode, the gearchanges are fast enough, and I still drive Manual. LOVE the PDK. Drove a F488 GTB on track, at Monza, and the Ferrari gearbox is no better than the PDK.

Martin, I am no professional, competent mechanic... (just 48 years of buying and driving every generation of 911). I do not see any major reason why the PDK gearboxes would be fundamentally different along the same generation of Porsche cars (Cayenne to 718, via Macan, Panamera...). Only the innards (gear ratios...etc) would be different, and the programming of the gear change speed, maybe. I certainly feel differences between my last 2... 992 S and 992 Turbo S. Turbo changes gear that little bit faster... especially in Sport Plus Mode.

I am stunned.
I think I might move to plan B > take my car (997 Turbo 3.6L, 2007) to techart in Germany and get stage 1 or even stage 2... just over 600hp !!! for the price of the Eco-tax (stuff the Greens!!)

WTF!! Are the tax for second hand cars as well? Or just new? I tralling for a 997 Gen2 in France at the moment.. For export...

I owned a 2015 981 CS pdk with SC for three years and 30.000 km and traded it for a 2011 997 C2GTS pdk with SC about a month ago. I have driven the 997 for 2.000 km so far and the pdk has been a major disappointment. I’m hoping it’ll grow on me because I loved the 997 steering, design and size. The 997 exhaust is kind of dull too, even with PSE, but I feel like that is an easy fix with the center muffler delete.

if you dont already know that the PDK has been serviced with documentation, you'll want to be sure that it's been done. That makes a difference to the shift quality, in my experience.

Hey there! Thanks for the reply!
I did a full service on it the day I got it and changed all fluids including the transmission oil. It is not like it's malfuctioning, it works fine. It's just not as fast and fun like the 981/991 pdk. The pdk in the 981 was magical, so good. I guess it's a case of not being able to have the cake and eat it too. I got better stearing and a nicer looking car and had to give up the transmission refinement of the newer pdk.
