Default Tire bulge - replace?

On my 09C4S I have a very slight bulge (1/4" or so ) in the sidewall on one of my rear PZeros. Do I need to replace when it is so small? The tire probably only has 2K miles to go. If I do replace the rears I could go Pzeros again or I could replace all 4 tires (fronts are just fine) and go, I assume, Super Sports. Your thoughts? BTW I don't track the car.

hard to judge without a picture, but keep this in mind... The bulge is geing caused because the sidewall has been compromised, allowing air to work between the layers of rubber... So, what do you think?

Definitely replace the tire....
You probably hit a pot hole without enough tire pressure?

Yes, I think you have to replace that tire. Too much at risk if you don't. If you're ready for 4 new tires I'd suggest you try anything but PZeros again. I had PZeros and found them to be very poor tires. I replaced mine with Hankooks and am really happy. YMMV

Best,

Matt

The bulge wil either get larger, most likely, or stay the same. Either way the sidewall is compromised. If you are not tracking the car just replacing the one tire seems to mare since. Try a set of MPSSs when you need a full set.

No question. Immediate replacement. The bulge means tire structure/belts compromised.

Depending on how old the tires are this could be a warranty. Regardless....replace the tire.

Picture this: you're driving on a highway at 70mph....do you really want to worry about a sudden deflation (i.e., a blowout) at that speed?

Time to replace the tire.

Thanks all. I just made an appointment with my local independent to have the rears replaced with N2 PZeros. Decided not to replace all 4 with SuperSports as the front PZeros have a fair bit of tread still. When the fronts are shot I'll then move on to a set of four of the latest (supersports or whatever).

Glad you are not rolling the dice. Getting a road hazard warranty for the new rears?

I just clipped a roundabout kerbing (1" high concrete curved curb) with the drivers rear on the way to work. A solid feeling impact. I pulled over a bit up the road and inspected. There is a 2-3 inch long bulge in the sidewall from that sudden impact (25mph). I'll be replacing both rears as there are over 15k miles on the tires.

I would bet my life savings you would NOT be successful under the warranty. These bulges are very frequent with extremely low profile tires. As stated above, all you need to do is hit a pothole to hard.

The last time I had a bulge appear on the sidewall of my tire, Discount Tire applied a pro-rated refund of the price of the original tire to its replacement. Unless there's some obvious damage, you should definitely expect something similar.

Besides, isn't the math pretty simple? Risk your $100,000 car over the price of a $400 tire?
