You might want to change the subject line to "Ferdinand Alexander Porsche ..." because Ferdinand Porsche was his grandfather. Wow. Butzi was not that old. He wasn't the inventor--but he was the designer (stylist).

Hats off to "Ferry", the world has lost one of the greats in Automotive history.
On a side note, the article mentions the compact SUV as a Macon. My salesman said it is a Cajun. Either a typo in the article or possibly a European name?

"Butzi" was in charge of the body style and Piech was in charge of the engine design.

A milestone passed. Butzi Porsche created a timeless shape that is simultaneously performing and beautiful. In an age of 'off-the-wall', outrageous, passing designs (see newest Viper) and with Butzi gone I suspect the 'leading edge' (read timed) designs will start.

Butzi has been running Porsche Design, which is separate from Porsche cars...I don't think his passing will truly affect the design path of the 911 or any Porsche vehicles at this point, and mostly its his design philosophies which will no doubt carry on his legacy at pd.

Very strange, because I looked back at the email my salesman sent referring to it as a Cajun! I believe the owner of the dealership was at a show and maybe he was overseas where they call it Cajun someplace. It's like in Italy, where the Chevy Nova was renamed, because "Non Va" in Italian means "doesn't go"! lol
Also the Jetta in Italy is called a Borla, because Jetta sounds like a slang dialect word ( I forget the meaning, becasue I don't speak dialect).

One story is "Cajun" was an early name for the vehicle in development: CAyenne JUNior.

Anyway, many communities...Porsche, automotive in general, and anyone with a sensibility for artistic form and function...lost a legend today. And what an icon he left as a legacy!

Sad. Even more sad as he was not really that old. Cause of death?
